Chapter 1

Javier

She awoke from her coma. Her small almond-shaped eyes looked back at me and her hand combed her brownish-black hair away from her face. 

"Who are you?" she asked. My spirits sank. I hadn't expected her not to remember me like the Doc had said. 

I cupped her face with my good hand. My other was in a cast and sling after an accident involving Kayne. "It's me. You don't remember?" I questioned. She shook her head. I let go and her dad charged in the doors. 

"Zann!" he exclaimed. She looked at me, mystified as she untangled herself from her father's hug. Your dad, I mouthed silently as she understood.

"Hey Dad," she greeted. Her dad looked up with tears in his eyes. " Oh darling," he said. "I'll leave you and Javier to get acquainted. I've got to return to work." With that, Mr Yates left.

I looked at her. "You really really don't remember me?" I asked. She frowned. "No... " she remarked hesitantly. I sighed and fingered my hair frustratedly. " I'm Javier. Javier Lee. The name ring a bell to you?" I asked hopefully. Zann squeezed her eyes shut, wrinkling her forehead. After a long moment, she opened her eyes and shook her head.

"I was one of your close friends. Remember?" I tried. Zann shook her head again. "I'm sorry, Javier." I sighed heavily and forced a smile. She seemed to sense that I was troubled and she reached out to pat my hand. Her eyes glistened with tears. " I feel bad not knowing you." I smiled gently. "You will soon, once you are discharged. You feeling better?" she nodded. I tucked a lock of her brownish-black hair behind her ear.

Just then, the nurse walked in. 

"I'm sorry, but visiting hours are over. You may come to see her tomorrow. Zann needs to rest now." The nurse with a name tag that read "Jenna" pronounced her name as 'Za-an'. 

"You pronounced my name wrongly, Jenna. It's Zann," Zann corrected politely, placing an emphasis on the word 'Zann'. I smirked to myself. At least she still had some of that attitude she used to have. 

"Bye," I said over my shoulder to her. "Bye Javier." she replied as I shut the room door. I missed her immediately. How could she forget me?

Was the amnesia real or was she faking it?
