The rest of the day was quite smooth sailing, except when I met Javier and Jayden in Mother Tongue.

I had planned to do some revision, but I immediately stiffened as Javier smiled at me.

Nice acting.

Jayden had sympathy in his eyes for me.

"Hey, welcome back. Anything you need? Sorry you had to come back so early," Jayden apologised, as if it was his fault.

"Don't be. I'm glad to be back." I reassured him ad the most popular jock sauntered in.

James.

There was nothing swoonworthy over that name, but all the girls gasped or cried or wailed when he turned to look at them or flashed them a smile.

Weird.

James strolled over to his table, which was behind mine.

"Hey, Zann," he said, my name rolling off his tongue in an emotion I couldn't really place.

"Uh, hi." I said, aware of the glares the girls were giving me.

What was wrong with them?

I didn't intend to even have this conversation of sorts.

"How's your memory? Need a little...jolt?" he said, smirking.

I felt the tips of my ears turn red.

Matt turned around.

"Look, James, just leave her alone. She's taken by Javier." he commented and glared.

James shook his head.

"She's free. He and Claire were busy making out." he replied.

My heart dropped to my stomach.

"What?" I said. I knew Javier and Claire were together, but this heartbreak wasn't like I expected.

It crushed my heart.

James smiled smugly. "You don't know? Well, you'll see. Soon." Matthew turned to glare fiercely at him.

"Leave her alone." he said frighteningly.

James shook his head.

"No can do, Sabers. Gotta catch the girl first. You snooze, well, you lose!" he said.

I sighed.

Matthew grimaced.

"I need toothpicks to hold up my eyes," he groaned and turned back around before Miss Sim started lessons.

There went my precious revision time.
