Akiko's POV
I woke up with a big smile on my face today. It was finally my 13th birthday. I have been waiting a whole year for this. Ever since I turned 12, I was looking forward to becoming a teenager. Although it is my birthday, I still have to go to school. I mean, I don't really care, but it would have been nice to have a day off.
"Happy 13th birthday, Akiko!" I turned my head to see all of the orphanage kids wishing me a happy birthday.
"I can't believe I have been here for 13 years already!" I exclaimed. "It wouldn't be the same without all of you guys here."
"Hurry up and eat or you'll be late to school," the principal said.
"OK," I replied. I walked out to see a plate of pancakes at my seat. I sat down and finished eating within a matter of minutes. I changed and started on my way school. Lately, Haruhi and I have been walking to school together, since I found out that we live close by. I was getting closer to her apartment.
"Hey, Haruhi!" I called out.
"Hi Akiko!" Haruhi replied. "How are you this morning?"
"Good, good. Actually it is an awesome day!"
"You seem to be really upbeat today," Haruhi commented.
"Yeah, today is one of the most important days of the year!" I exclaimed.
"It is now. Is it national best friend day?" Haruhi asked.
"No," I replied. I felt kind of deflated, but I was sure she would realize sooner or later.
"Is it national high five day?"
"No."
"National teacher appreciation day?"
"No."
"I know. Is it national fancy tuna day?"
"No," I replied. Maybe she will figure it out soon. I just can't believe that she didn't remember. "No, it's not really that important, Haruhi. Let's just head to school."
When we got to school, we headed to our class. There we met the twins. "Hey, Haruhi! Hey, Akiko!" they said.
"Hey guys!" I said. Haruhi waved. I didn't really want to talk to anyone right now. If Haruhi couldn't remember, then what are the chances of the other idiots remembering. Oh well. Classes went on and on today. They were so boring. Mostly, review and reminders about not letting everything we learned go during summer break. Finally, the last school bell rang. I started to head towards the Host Club. We weren't going to be serving any customers today, since Tamaki has been teaching this elementary school kid how to play a song on the piano. His name was Shiro and he wanted to play a song with a girl he liked before she moved away. Today was his performance with her. I wasn't really in the mood for it. Maybe, I could skip it. Yeah, I'm going to do that. I turned the other way towards the front door and left.
I didn't want to go back to the orphanage because the principal would ask why I wasn't at the Host Club and I would have to explain to her why I came back so early. There is my one friend I could always trust though. I headed towards the Bus Stop.
I had finally arrived at the front door of the Master Course dorm. I knocked on the door of the dorm. I heard a whole bunch of people talking inside. Finally, someone opened the door. It was Otoya, luckily. I hugged him tightly. "I am so glad you opened the door, can I talk to you along for a while. I am not having a good day. Do you have anymore work today?" I asked.
"No, I don't have anymore work today. Do you want to come inside to my room?" he asked. I nodded and followed him inside to his room. "Spill," he said when we got to his room.
