I stand in my compact, everyone surrounds me. Carson stands too, he has a smile on his face and so do I. I slowly reach my hand out motioning for him to come closer. I can't find any words. I can't speak. Either someone else turned 16 at the same time I did, or I am Carson's other half.
Carson slowly walks toward me, everyone won't look away from us. I pick up my neckless and Carson mimics me. We look at each other, and then, very slowly we put our necklaces together.
They fit.
Everyone cheers, and Carlin comes and hugs me and then Carson. Carson and I don't really move, we just stare at each other. We don't look away from each other. And, for the first time, I realize that Carson is very handsome. His hair is the perfect color, a little bit darker than mine. His eyes are the prettiest shade of green too. Emerald, they are emerald. I am so happy he is my other half. One of my best friends is my other half. I think we will fit perfectly.
I can't stop the smile that spreads across my face. I can't help the blush that makes my face entirely red. I guess my smile was what Carson was waiting for, he walks over and embraces me. I hug him back. I love the way his arms feel around me. I love the way my head rests on his chest, near his shoulder.
Carson leans his head down to my ear. "I am so happy you are my match. You were worth the wait," he whispers, "I love you, I always have and I always will." My heart warms at this.
"I love you too," I say, "I always will." I promise to him.
I step away from him and go to my parents, my mom is tearing up. My dad looks proud. I tell them I love them.
"Oh honey, I love you too," my mom says. Her voice wavers, "So, where are you going to move to?" I then realize why she is a little bit sad. Her daughter, me, will have to move out. As soon as you meet your other half you have to move out within three weeks. You have to live with your other half. I will live with Carson. Carson will live with me. I will have to leave my parents, hopefully Carson won't want to move too far away.
"I think that is a conversation for tomorrow, mom, I'm sorry I have to leave," I answer.
"What are you sorry for?" Mom asks, "You found your other half, do what you have to do. I don't care where you go, just come visit, okay?" I nod confirming her question.
Dad adds, "And remember we love you." I nod again. I look back at Carson and Carlin, they are doing the same things as us. They have to say goodbye too. Carlin will have to start looking soon, and I know she will want to travel.
...
I walk into the bedroom to get ready for bed. I am exhausted after this incredible night. I change into my pajamas. I brush my teeth and then I crawl in bed. I have a lot of decisions to make tomorrow.
