"Echizen-kun!" someone called behind me in an obnoxiously loud voice.
i paused in walking to the tennis courts and turned slightly as horio and the others waved me over.
sighing i quickly made my way over to them as horio was already yelling information i probably needed to know at me.
from what i gathered coach ryuzaki cancelled practice today.
i just shrugged and walked away from them, no reason in going to the school courts then, nobody would be there.
so instead i made my way to a close by street court.
i felt surprise flit across my face though when i arrived at my destination, music was filling the air along with the sound of tennis balls and amazed whispers.
i made my way through a crowd that had gathered around a singles court and craned my neck to see what had everyone's attention.
a flash of silver made my eyes widen slightly, a girl was on the courts with a huge grin on her face as she smashed a ball into a man's blind spot on the other side of the court.
as i watched as she opened her mouth and sang with the song cockily. "this is ten percent luck, twenty percent skill, fifteen percent concentrated power of will, five percent pleasure, fifty percent pain, and a hundred percent reason to remember the name!"
the song seemed to end as the referee announced the girl the winner.
she grinned and held her hand out to shake her opponent's hand.
the guy gave a sheepish smile and shook her hand.
i quickly pulled my racket out as the referee started asking for another player to enter the court.
i jumped in before anyone else could and smirked at the girl slightly as i made my way to her on my side of the net.
"seems we have a challenger to your winning streak silver!" the referee said smugly with a smirk, i recognized him.
he was here a lot and knew i was here quite a bit. "let's see how you do against one of our regular winners shall we?"
she just shrugged and smiled widely at me as she held her hand out for the handshake.
i shook it and she got her racket ready for the spin, giving me an expectant look.
my smirk widened a little as i said "rough." she spun and it landed on smooth.
she gave me a wicked grin and said "seems i won the serve, just like im going to win the game!" then she turned and skipped to her serving spot.
i shook my head incredulously at her before going to my spot.
she looked at the referee and said loudly "play you're going down by sick puppies please!"
she bounced the ball a few times as the song started, but as soon as the singer started singing she threw the ball in the air and served.
i was slightly shocked at the fact that the song was english and she was singing along with it as she made her way to the net to cover her side if i returned her serve, which i did clumsily from my surprise.
she hit it back adding a topspin and smirked as i returned it, over my shock now.
the ball seemed really heavy, this girl is strong to make it so heavy.
she hit it back and as my racket connected it seemed even heavier than before.
whats going on?
i've never played a girl who was this strong, i honestly didn't think one existed that could put this much power behind a ball.
her silver hair seemed to fly behind her as she chased the ball to the opposite corner of the court and hit it back with ease, she's so fast and light on her feet.
and she was still singing, as if she wasn't winded at all.
i grunted as i returned a lobed ball to her and she grinned, my eyes widened a fraction as i realized my mistake a moment too late.
she smashed the ball down right beside me with a wide smirk on her face.
time seemed to slow down as the sun glinted off of her brilliant silver hair and she asked smugly "are you sure you're not just some amateur off the street?" she asked it in English and i could feel my cheeks turn slightly red before i huffed and got back into a ready position.
she was about to serve again when the music abruptly stopped and instead the sound of sexy back filled the air, but the lyrics were different.
i smirked at her horrified expression as it sang about her mom calling her for no reason.
she rushed over to the referee and took her phone from him to answer the call.
i could hear a woman yelling at her from all the way over here and her face paled considerably.
then she sighed and hung up the phone before turning to me as she bowed and said "sorry but i need to go home."
she then took her headphones from the referee and sent me a smile as she called over her shoulder "i guess that means you win! have fun with your next match!"
i reached my hand out to her slightly as i called "hey wait! what's your name?"
she turned back to me a little and smiled cryptically "maybe i'll tell you next time we meet!"
then she turned and dashed off as the referee called for a new opponent for me.
what a strange girl.
