the sound of my alarm ringing in my ears made me groan out loud as I buried my face deeper into my pillow in an attempt to block out the shrill sound.
instead of being able to ignore it and falling back to sleep like I wanted my pillow sighed out and lifted away from me before the alarm was turned off.
cracking one eye open I felt a broad smile creep across my face as I saw Koyuki glaring down at the alarm in her hands before she put it back on the desk beside her and stoked Karupin who had jumped into the bed at some point.
she was facing away from me but I had both arms wrapped around her with my face previously having been buried in her vanilla-scented hair.
"we're going to be late," she called out in a still tired voice that made me want to pull her in tighter and just lay there.
so that's what I did.
despite my arms prickling from being underneath her all night, I felt extremely comfortable as I pressed her back even closer to my chest and buried my face in her sweet-smelling hair once again.
she giggled before letting her fingers trace small patterns on the back of my hand that was resting on her stomach as she said "as much as I would love to stay in bed like this all day Ryo, we have practice this morning. and a test in chemistry."
I let out a hum of acknowledgment before squeezing her around her middle once and slowly slipping out of bed with a large yawned.
she giggled at me before rubbing the sleep out of her eyes cutely and stood up as well.
I waited for her to go to the bathroom first before quickly stripping and changing then made my way downstairs to see mom setting breakfast on the table.
"oh, normally it takes a few times hitting the snooze for you to get up! I'm surprised!" dad said with a smirk as he flipped the page of his magazine that was blocked by a newspaper.
I ignored him and sat down, still somewhat sleepy as Koyuki appeared in the seat beside me with a bright grin on her face as she looked around at all of us sitting at the table before her gaze finally landed on me.
I couldn't help but get lost in her clear blue eyes as they sparkled happily while she sipped on her orange juice and made small talk with my parents.
there wasn't a single trace of the stormy grey that usually seemed to cloud them even when she was happy, and the realization made me smile warmly at her as I leaned forward and propped myself up on the table to eat.
I know that both of my parents noticed how happy I was having Koyuki here.
However, I couldn't bring myself to feel even the slightest bit embarrassed.
Especially when she turned and grinned at me as she animatedly began to talk about a song she heard on the radio just yesterday morning, even going as far as to sing a few lines that she remembered of the top of her head.
after breakfast, we both went back to my bathroom to brush our teeth only for her to turn it into a playful war over the mirror.
we both were laughing and elbowing each other as we tried to push the other out of the reflection.
it seemed to end too quickly and soon we were walking down the stairs with our school bags and calling out our farewells for the morning.
as I closed the door behind us I looked down at Koyuki catching her gaze and let a smile play on my lips as she smiled back, her eyes still sparkling brightly.
instead of putting my hand in my pocket like I normally do I flexed my finger in anticipation for what I knew I wanted to do.
"I think we are going to be late," Koyuki mused as she tucked a silver strand of hair that had fallen into her eyes behind her ear.
"It's fine," I answered as I reached my hand for hers only to miss as she lifted her hand to adjust her bag that had her clothes from last night in them.
I frowned but said nothing as her house came into view and she rushed off to put her extra bag away.
did she just brush my hand off on purpose?
or did she not notice I was trying to hold her hand?
only one way to find out.
when she came back outside I had stopped and was waiting by her gate, making her smile broaden at the fact that I didnt leave her.
as if I could ever bring myself to at this point.
she slipped her keys back into her bag and stepped to my side to begin walking again only to pause with a cute confused expression on her face when I didnt move.
searching for even the slightest hint of stormy grey in her bright blue eyes I reached for her hand again, this time slowly.
her almost sky blue eyes darted down to my hand and watched as it wrapped gently around her own hand before her face turned a pretty strawberry red, making me smirk at the fact that she wasn't pulling away.
a slow shy smile crept up onto her face and just as slow as her smile had come to form her fingers shifted and slid until they were entwined with mine.
her small hand seemed to fit perfectly in mine and I felt a light blush dust my cheeks despite the large smirk I now wore before I tugged her ever so slightly into the direction of our school.
no words where spoken, not that they needed to be, as a comfortable warmth seemed to settle around us.
it was almost dreamlike as she leaned ever so slightly closer to me and gently rested her head against my arm, sighing in content.
I was happy, happier than I ever thought I would be doing anything other than playing tennis.
being with Koyuki is nice, but being able to make her eye shimmer and shine that beautiful sky blue color with such a sweet smile on her face made me wonder which I loved more.
lifting her head she made eye contact as we stopped at the train crossing and waited patiently for the safety rails to lift.
she squeezed my hand and as they finally started to lift her eyes sparkled playfully as she said in the happiest voice I had ever heard from her "last one to the classroom buys lunch today!"
then she took off at a dead sprint, her laughter ringing in my ears as I watched her glorious silver hair sparkle in the morning sunlight.
