the last bell rang as I leaned back in my seat happily looking over at Ryoma as I said cheerily "finally! Hopefully, I cant wait to play today!"

Ryoma smirked at me from his arm pillow as he sat up a bit and asked "oh? are you really that excited to be beaten?"

I rolled my eyes as I said: "the only way that would happen is if the samurai came out of retirement!"

Ryoma rose an eyebrow as he lifted his head scooting his chair back a little to get up from his desk.

"you know, that one tennis player that everyone says was like a samurai on the court?" I clarified as I picked up my bag and walked with Ryoma to the gym.

"I know who he is, I just didnt know you knew," he said as he looked ahead with narrowed eyes.

I tilted my head at him curiously, wondering what was bothering him before shrugging it off and continuing "yeah, when Koyumi and I were really young we just happened to catch a rerun of one of his matches on tv. from then on all I wanted to do was play tennis! he made it look like so much fun!"

Ryoma hummed in acknowledgment as he paused outside of the girls changing room, his hesitation made me frown slightly as I waited for him to say whatever he was going to say.

he seemed to change his mind though as he shook his head as if to rid the thought as he turned away from me and called over his shoulder "see you out there."

I blinked slightly in bewilderment at his actions before turning into the changing room and changing into a pair of black biker shorts a bright teal sports bra and a black spaghetti strap.

taking my favorite teal scrunchi I pulled my hair up into a messy silver bun on top of my head and exited the changing room.

as I walked outside I swept my gaze around, looking for my fitness partner.

he was standing by Sakuno who was saying something he didnt really seem to be listening to as he stretched for today's activity.

I hesitated before going over to them with a smile on my face.

"took you long enough," Roma grunted without looking up as he grabbed his toes for his toes.

I rolled my eyes as I said: "when you have this much hair to contain before coming out here then I will listen to your complaints."

he looked up and frowned slightly as he asked: "why didnt you just leave it down then?"

I sighed as I said, "I won't repeat myself."

Sakuno seemed to be uncomfortable as she shifted from foot to foot and rubbed her hands together in a nervous gesture.

"So who do you work with normally?" I asked her as I started to stretch as well.

she blinked at me before looking up at the doors to see Tomoka coming out.

"her," she said as Tomoka waved wildly at us and ran over.

"hey Ryoma!" she said loudly, making Ryoma cringe slightly.

"gather around!" the coach called as she looked over a clipboard.

we all lined up like we were told and waited for our group to be called and assigned an activity.

"Ryoma, you two can play again today. I know you both are raring to go, just remember that you have practice after," she said when she finally got to us.

"WOOHOO!" I cheered as I jumped up and down a few times.

Ryoma just rolled his eyes as he smiled at my antics.

we both retrieved our rackets and a single ball before heading to our usual court by the music room.

I pulled my phone out and started the song Higher by the score.

as the song started we got into position and after making sure I was ready Ryoma served.

noticing the way he served with his right hand I assumed it would be a twist serve and prepared for it, as I leaned back and twisted slightly I started to sing just as the ball connected and went back to Ryoma's side.

"I've been up

I've been down

seen the world

from the ground

but I hear the drumming

now my veins are pumping

scrapped my knees

bruised my heart

it's where you end

not where you start

I see them running

cause they see me coming

I'm done with the noise

that life seems to bring

but ill use my voice

it's my turn to sing

you know that

all my life

I have been waiting

I have been waiting for this

all my life

I have been fighting

I have been fighting for this

dream in my soul!

and I won't let it go!

you know that

all my life

they try to keep me down but I just get higher!"

Ryoma smiled at me as we had kept a continues rally up, not really prepared to get serious yet.

"hey, Koyuki?" Ryoma called out in English, making me look curiously at him as I returned his shot with a topspin.

"are you ok?" he asked with furrowed brows.

I blinked in slight confusion as I slipped slightly and ended volleying his return.

"What makes you think I'm not?" I asked hesitantly.

he furrowed his brows as waited for the ball to start its descent before barely nudging it back over the net to me.

he sighed as I caught the ball and waited for his response.

"You seemed so depressed recently, and then today you seemed happier than ever," he mumbled as he avoided eye contact with me.

I looked down slightly to the court as I thought about how I have been acting recently.

"I'm sorry, I didnt mean to worry you," I said slowly as my grip tightened on the ball.

when I looked back up at him he had shifted his cap to block his expression from me.

"it's fine. but, you know you can talk to me right, like before," he said in a somewhat quiet voice, almost as if he were embarrassed to say the words out loud.

I tilted my head to the side as a sly smirk crept across my face.

"aww, you're so cute acting all bashful like that Ryo!" I cooed as I lightly leaned against the net separating us.

his ears turned red and I felt my chest warm at the sight as he looked up with an irritated from and bright blush across his face.

"shut up," he said as he got into position for me to serve.
