Lucia's POV

"Soooo. What do you want for your birthday?" Mya wiggles her eyebrows.

Mya just got a job recently, but she won't tell me where she works at.

"Cigarettes" I smile at her.

"Lucia!" She smacks my arm.

"Oww you b.itch" I rub my arm.

"You can die from those" she tries to scare me.

"Okay??? And???" I roll my eyes.

"I'll just surprise you with something" Mya looks on the Forever21 website.

"Fine" I huff.

---

Mya and I walk to health class. She got her schedule changed because she knows how to sweet talk.

They make us take that class junior year instead of freshman year because they say we're more prone to have sexual intercourse at this age.

"Okay class, today we're going to be starting a new project! The project can be about a type of illness" Mrs. River speaks.

Everyone in the class groans.

"I don't know when I want these due, but you guys can take your time. I'll let you guys know later on. This will be a group project!" She cheers.

My eyes immediately land to Mya's. We're definitely going to be working together.

"I'm picking out the groups sadly so don't get ahead of yourselves" Mrs . River chuckles.

Everyone groans again.

She starts calling out names and making us move into our groups.

"And Ethan, Mya, Luke, and Lucia" Mrs. River finishes.

Yes! I get to be in a group with Mya!

I sit next to Mya, and we give eachother the hell yes look.

"Soooo... what are we going to do for this project?" Ethan speaks up.

"I don't know. How about mental illness?" Luke suggests.

"That's actually a pretty good topic" Mya agrees.

They all just stare at me to see if I'm on board.

"I mean, if you guys want to" I shrug my shoulders.

"Mental illness it is then" Mya chimes.

"Let's meet at the library after school" Luke says before the bell cuts him off.

---

The afternoon rush starts to kick in. I can't wait to get out of here.

The last bell rings, and everyone rushes through the doors. I'm jogging to the bus lane when I hear someone calling my name.

"Lucia! Lucia!" The voice beems.

I turn around and see Luke jogging towards me.

"What" I say annoyed.

"You forgot?" He chuckles.

"I forgot about wha- Ohhh. I remember now" I laugh and start walking to the library.

---

Luke and I arrive at the library and see Mya and Ethan waiting for us.

"Sorry we're late. Someone almost forgot about our meeting" Luke teases.

We all sit in silence for five minutes.

"So, are we going to start this project or what?" Ethan speaks up.

"Well, the topic was Luke's idea soooo" I trail off.

"What do you guys want to do? An informational power point on mental illness?" Luke suggests.

"Yes! Let's do that" Mya agrees.

Everyone gets up and walks to a computer in the library to begin our research.

---

We all group back together to share our information we collected.

"So, what did you guys find?" I ask.

"Mental illness is something that one chooses" Luke states.

Wtf?

"Uh no, that's not true. It's called mental illness for a reason. You can't choose an illness. Mental illness is based on how your brain works. That is why a brain with mental illness is different from a brain without mental illness on a scan. It's been scientifically proven. Plus, mental illness is an imbalance of chemicals in the brain" I respond.

"Whao, didn't mean to upset you. I just found that on Wikipedia" Luke puts his hands up in defense.

"I'm not mad. I'm just saying" I shrug my shoulders.

"Plus, Wikipedia is b.ullshit. Don't use that website to get information again. Okay?" I look at Luke who nods.

"Ohh, I found out that depression is the most commom mental illness" Mya adds.

"Oh yeah, I got that fact too" Ethan joins in.

"You know. I just don't get it. Most of the people with depression are the ones who have the best life anyone could ask for" Luke sincerely speaks.

"Just because someone's parents are together, someone has a nice house, has nice clothes, isn't poor, eats everyday, and has a loving family doesn't mean they can't be depressed, have anxiety, an eating disorder, self harm issues, or any other problem" I breathe out.

"But why be depressed if you have it good?" Luke questions again.

"It doesn't matter how "good" you have it. Depression makes every situation seem pointless and hopeless" I answer.

"Sometimes you never know if someone is depressed because they always make people happy" Ethan adds.

"Why would someone who is depressed want to make others happy when they themselves aren't happy?" Mya asks confused.

"I think the saddest people always try their hardest to make people happy because they know what it's like to feel absolutely worthless, and they don't want anyone else to feel like that" I sit up straight.

"Ohh I see. Wait, how do you know all of this?" Mya tilts her head.

"I think it's time we get going" I stand up and ignore her question.

"Well it was an interesting working session group. See you guys" Luke leaves the table.

We all go our own way, and I rush back home for dinner.

Author's Note:
I went to the store and bought 3 nail polishes.

I got home and realized that they were all basically the same color.
