Lucia's POV
"Want to come over later today" Mya asks.
"Can't. I'm hanging out with Ethan" I twist my lock on my locker.
"Since when did you and Ethan start hanging out" she scrunches her eyebrows.
"Since today" I shrug my shoulders.
"Whyyyy for" she keeps asking questions.
I groan in annoyance.
"He wants to teach me how to love life. I don't know" I close my locker.
"Enough about me. How'd your date with Luke go" I start to walk.
"Amazing! The restaurant we went to was beautiful! They played live music and had chandeliers" she smiles at the thought.
"He was so sweet. He kissed my cheek when he walked me to my front door. I like him a lot, Lucia" she sighs.
"I'm glad you're happy Mya. Luke seems like a good guy for you" I smile at her before heading our own ways to class.
---
Mrs. River's class with be the death of me. It's so boring in here. I walk into class when she approaches me.
"Hey Lucia. Your presentation for the mental illness, depression, was so captivating that I wanted to ask you something" she looks at me to see if she should continue.
I nod.
"I'm a counselor for a group called Uplifting. It's a group of teenagers who suffer from depression. I wanted to know if you would like to give your presentation to them sometime next week" she smiles.
Talking about depression to a group of people who have it is more intimidating than to the ones who dont.
"Uhh... no thank you. Sorry" I try walking past her.
"That's fine then. Just think about it. It doesn't have to be next week. Whenever you feel like talking, you can come by" she smiles, and I walk to my desk.
---
I'm rushing to my locker before the bus leaves the parking lot. I'm zooming through the crowds when someone pulls on my backpack.
"What the fu-" I stop when I realize who it is.
Ethan raises an eyebrow.
"You're going to make me miss the bus" I turn around and continue to rush to my locker.
"No need to rush. I'm going to teach you how to love life again, remember" he smiles.
"So no need for you to go home" he adds.
"So, what are we going to do today" I get in the car.
"The real question is where are we going today" he glances over at me.
---
It looks like Ethan is driving out of town. It's only been twenty minutes into the car ride. The anticipation is killing me
"We're here nowww" he sings.
I look out my window and notice that we're basically surrounded by trees.
"Trees?" I ask confused.
"We have to go on a little hike in order to get to where I want to take you" he chuckles.
He opens his trunk and takes out a backpack and puts it on. He takes my hand in his and walks us to a trail that leads into the forest of trees.
I notice flowers along the pathway we're walking on, and I think Ethan noticed me looking.
He stops and picks a pink flower and puts it in between my ear.
"Thank you" I pick out a white flower and place it in between his ear as well.
We continue to walk the trail, hand in hand. Holding his hand feels weird. It's comforting yet nerve wrecking at the same time. I don't know why he makes me nervous for.
It's starting to get dark but not too much. I feel my stomach about to growl, so I clutch my belly.
S.hit.
Why did Ethan want to leave right after school?
"Hungry?" Ethan stops walking.
"Yeahhh" I chuckle.
We walk to an open space besides us, and he unzips the backpack. He takes out a blanket and lays it down.
"I brought us something to eat" he sits down and pats a spot next to him.
I sit down and examine what he brought.
I see two bowls of chicken salad and slices of apples in a small container.
"I had my mom help me" he laughs while handing me a bowl of chicken salad.
I begin eating like a pig because I'm too hungry.
Ethan just sits there and admires me.
"Eat" I point to his food.
"Oh yeah" he starts eating his chicken salad.
---
I finally finish eating, and we pack up the everything back in the backpack.
"Ethannn. It's dark now. How are we going to see" I whine.
He takes out a flashlight and turns it on.
"I got it cover, don't worry. Now come on, we're almost there" he takes my hand.
---
We kept walking for what seems like hours. I'm about to complain when Ethan stops and turns off the flashlight.
"Close your eyes" he tells me.
I do as told, and he takes both of my hands in his. He starts leading to where ever it is.
"Open" he let's go of my hands.
I open my eyes and immediately notice all the lights in the distance.
"Oh my gosh, it's beautiful here" I say stunned.
We're overlooking our town. The lights made the small town look much bigger.
"Our town is beautiful, isn't it" he whispers.
He lays the blanket down ten feet away from the edge of the clift.
"How far is the drop" I say referring to the clift.
"I'm not sure. 1,000 feet?" He sits down.
I sit down next to him, and he puts his arm around me due to the chilly fall weather.
"Are you loving life yet?" He runs his hand up and down my arm.
"A little bit now thanks to you" I lay my head on his shoulder.
