Maid in Tennessee

Chapter 12

It was now Saturday and the day of Luke's 4th of July BBQ. He had invited over 100 people, and a lot of famous people as well, I was starting to feel a little overwhelmed. Luke and I had decided to keep us a secret for a little while and believe you me its been so hard.
I was in the kitchen preparing the sides and Luke was out at the store getting the meat and alcohol. I heard his truck pull up outside and I went to the door to help him in but he already had help in the form of his Mama and Carter. Damn I was hoping for a few hours alone time with him. But hey we might steel a few moments at the BBQ. I went out to help bring in the bags this was the first time I was going to meet his mama,
"Hey Luke can I give y'all a hand"
He looked up and me and smiled and gave a sly wink, I almost passed out,
"Oh hey Katie yeah that would be fantastic, I would also like you to meet my mama, Mama this is my new housekeeper Katie Ryan, Katie this is my Mama LeClaire"
I walked down the step as put my hand out to shake her hand,
"Hey Mrs Bryan"
"Hush girl it's mama" she laughed as she hugged me. Whoa that went better than expected. I helped Luke and LeClaire in with the bags damn he must have bought the whole store.
"So Katie, has this son of mine been behaving himself"
"Absolutely Mrs... Oh sorry Mama, you have an absolute gentleman of a son" she smiled,
"Well thank you Katie, I have actually set him up on a date this coming Monday" I didn't know what to say, a date, how long has be known about this, was he just using me until something better comes along.
"Oh that's good" I said trying to hide my upset. I continued to put the stuff away and I I told LeClaire that I was going to pop out for an hour to get some things I needed. As I was heading to my truck I saw Luke walking over to me smiling but that quickly changed when he noticed I never returned the gesture.
"Hey Katie, what's up, where are you going" I replied dryly,
"Out for an hour or so, what do you care"
I didn't even wait on a reply I got in my truck put the radio on and drove off just as the tears started to fall.

Luke's POV

I went back in side, what the fuck just happened,
"Hey Mama,where is Katie off to"
"Hey baby, I don't know I was just telling her about your date on Monday and then she said that she had to pop out for an hour. She seemed a little upset"
I so wanted to tell Mama that I was with Katie but it was too soon.
"Oh ok, she did mention earlier she needed to get some things for the bonfire" I felt so bad I needed to speak to Katie.  I went out back to see what Carter was doing and he was building the bonfire,
"Hey buddy" said Carter,
"Hey want some help or have you got it"
"Yeah I'm good thanks, actually I was wondering, is Katie seeing anyone"
What the actual fuck can this day get any worse,
"I'm not sure why?"
"I was thinking of asking her out?" I was taken a back,
"You can only ask buddy" I said as I went back into the house. I went upstairs and tried to call Katie, straight to voicemail. I sent her a text
LB: hey baby, please pick up I need to explain
About half an hour passed,
KR: I thought we had something special, but you were only using me. Don't worry I will still be your "housekeeper"
LB: Baby please, meet me at the creek in ten minutes I need to explain.
I headed downstairs I told mama that I needed to pop out to the studio for an hour as Kerrie needed me to finalise a few things for my Kill the Lights album coming out early August. 
I jumped in my truck and headed to the creek, I hope she would be there waiting for me. I turned down the dirt track and I was pleased to see Katie's truck parked up. She was sitting on the tailgate and I could see she had been crying. I walked up to her and jumped up on the tailgate.
"Baby, I am still trying to get out of this date, I really don't wanna go but mama thinks she is doing good by setting me up"
"Luke I know we have only known one another a short time but I really like you, I just wish we could tell everyone"
I pulled he in for a hug,
"So do I baby, but I want you for myself a little while longer, can you wait out?"
"I suppose but I swear to god Luke if you sleep with this  woman on Monday, you won't see me for dust"
I laughed, "it's only you" I leaned in and kissed her and she deepened it and we lay there kidding for what seemed like forever.
"You better head back I will stay here a while and sort this little guy out" I laughed as I pointed to the tent in my shorts,
"No problem cowboy" she said as she pecked me on the lips and got into her truck.
Boy I was falling deep for this girl.
