Eavesdropping

Jude’s POV

            I was sitting in the sitting room of Aria’s house on Monday July fourth with Aria, Harry, Ron, Hermione, Ginny, Lucy, Bill, Fleur, Dean, Seamus, Luna, Neville, Ben, and Jenna. The kids were all at the Burrow with Mrs. Weasley and Aunt Marie and Lee was at the shop watching “George”. I still couldn’t believe someone was doing this to Aria and George. Who would do something like that? If I found out who it was, I’d kill them. My cousin was too good to deserve this.

            “Jude!” Aria yelled and interrupted my thoughts. I looked around and noticed everyone was looking at me. I looked up at Aria and she said, “Can you do that?”

            “Do what?” I asked.

            She sighed. “Can you work at the shop and keep an eye on the imposter?”

            “Oh, yeah.” I nodded.

            “Ok. Well you go do that now and we’ll plan the rest.” Harry said and looked at Aria. “So where have we looked for George?”

            I stopped listening to their conversation and looked at Lucy. She smiled at me and said, “You’ll do great.”

            “I know. I’m just worried about Aria.” I whispered and took out my wand. “I’ll see you tonight.”

            I apparated out of Aria’s house and appeared in Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes not even a second later. The shop was busy like it always was and I spotted “George” on the stairs greeting people and Lee working at the register. I made my way through the crowd and went straight up to “George”. “Hey, Jude.” He said and smiled at me. “Can I help you with something?”

            “Yeah actually.” I answered. “I was wondering if I could have a job here. Things are getting a little tight and I could really use the money.” I lied.

            “Yeah. Anything for family.” He smiled. “You can go stock some shelves.”

            “Thank you so much.” I faked a smile and walked away from him.

            I headed for the back room and looked at Lee. I told him what was going on then went into the back room to do what “George” told me. I started stocking the shelves in the store but kept a close eye on “George”. I watched him greet people then talking to some customers. Whoever was pretending to be him was getting him down pretty good. After about two hours, a girl with dark hair came in and started talking to “George”. I watched them as they seemed to have what looked like a serious conversation then they both left the shop. I looked over at Lee and he nodded so I followed them out of the store.

            I stuck behind them so they wouldn’t see me and followed them throughout Diagon Alley and into Knockturn Alley. There, they went inside a shop and I stayed outside to listen to their conversation. “What do you mean we’re out of Polyjuice potion?” “George”’s angry voice asked.

            “Well, you used the last of it today.” The girl answered in a nervous tone.

            “What?! Why isn’t there more?!” He yelled.

            “Well, we haven’t found all the ingredients lately and you know how long it takes to brew.”

            There was a crash then “George” yelled, “I have to keep up this act! I have to sleep by Aria tonight and the potion will wear off by morning! What do you think I’m going to do?!”

            “Say that you’re gonna work late?”

            “Work late?! I work at a bloody joke shop! There is no working late!”

            “Then tell her you have to go on a business trip somewhere to see if you can get the shop in whatever country tomorrow and sneak out before she wakes up.”

            It was quiet then he said, “That’s brilliant, Addie.”

            My eyes were wide and I quickly stood up. This was how we were going to find out who’s impersonating to be George. I have figured out a plan. I had to tell the others. I took out my coin and had it tell everyone to meet Aria’s before apparating back to the shop to tell Lee what was going on. He said he’d stay there to watch “George” and cover for me so I apparated to Aria’s. Everyone was there and stared at me.

            “I have a plan to figure out who the fake George is.” I grinned and we all gathered around to talk.
