I cursed silently. The Manticore was always seated in the West Woods; I knew that! How could I have let myself run this way? I drew my sword quietly, as did my allies. Nico mouthed the word duo. I nodded and slammed my back against his. Around us, our allies copied. Noah and Pygon. Kade had to settle for a tree. This system Nico and I had come up with was for when we entered the Sloughgor. We would go back to back so we couldn't be crept up on or attacked from anywhere- in other words, we had each other's backs. Literally. The Manticore charged, hissing, at Noah and Pygon. They slashed at the Manticore until Noah screamed and ran. I shook my head. Crazy. The beast came at us and we held our ground until something hit the Manticore in the back of the head. It turned angrily to face the person who has thrown the rock- Kade. He stepped away from the tree and swung his sword, slicing off the Manticore's foot. It howled, and he cut off its head.
"How did you-?" began Nico, but was interrupted by a howl from the woods. Kade grinned.
"Never mind," he replied. "But here come it's friends."
