I slumped onto the ground completely. Bad idea. My head hit a rock. "Ouch," I said dully.
"I hope the rock's okay," snickered Kade, elbowing Pygon. Pygon glared at him while Nico pushed past the two of them to reach me.
"He'll be fine, man," he said, sitting down beside me. I stared at him like he was speaking another language.
"The house is on fire. For all I know, he's dead too." I bit my lip to hold back my tears. "Claudia will be upset, I'll be upset, if mother makes it out she'll probably have a heart attack and die-"
"Calm down, dude," said Nico. "Your brother's tough. How's the view of the sky?" I sat up and looked at him.
"Depressing," I said. "Man, it's times like this you need a girlfriend to cheer you up." He stiffened and stared at me like I was speaking another language.
"Dude," said Nico solemnly. "You don't want a girlfriend in a place like this." He clapped me on the shoulder and stood. "I'm going to get some firewood and scout around. Check for those allies Jack said were coming." He headed into the forest and I remembered two things. The Slogurs Jack had warned me about; I knew who they were. And why Nico didn't like me mentioning girlfriends.
