At Camp Jupiter
"WHAT?!" Reyna's voice went up a whole octave. She felt her hands slightly shake. She swiftly concealed them in her pockets.
"You heard right sister. They're coming. Magic and demigods don't sound like a good combination." Hylla said through the Iris message.
"Magic and demigods AND monsters." Reyna muttered.
"Whatever. Just know our reinforcements can only help you so much. When your friends from Camp Half-Blood return from their quest, they will be carrying extra baggage. More correctly, wizard and monster baggage." Hylla said, shrugging.
Reyna twisted her ring. "We have to prepare. We have to...." Her voice faltered.
Reyna was thinking of all she'd been through. Her heart breaks, wars, and battles. Focus.
She took a deep breath. If there was anything a daughter of war knew, it was that pain was temporary and success was forever. Her heart's pain and sadness was temporary. Her success at the battle to come would be forever.
"Reyna?" Hylla asked gently.
"What? Oh, I'm fine. Just thinking. Thank you for the information. I have to go. Senate meeting." Reyna forced a smile.
Hylla waved, then the image dissolved.
Reyna looked in the mirror. She saw her emotions expressed too well on her face. Lifting her chin, she hardened her gaze and pursed her lips. Then broke down in tears.
"I...don't...know! What..to...do!" She sobbed. Reyna was done with pretending. She had to be strong and keep her feelings in check constantly. She was also bearing the weight of a job meant for two.
She wiped away her tears. She gritted her teeth. She couldn't afford to be weak. Not in front of the Senate.
Assuming a poker-face, she swept out of the room, her special cloak-her gift from Bellona and Athena-billowing in the wind.
Then Reyna did what she did best....
"ATTENTION! It has come to my attention that...."
She got ready for battle.
The spear was thrown.
