Chapter 29

At Camp Jupiter:
"We're screwed."

"You think so?"

"Was that sarcasm?"

"You think so?"

"Oh, do us all a favor and shut up, why don't you?"

"Why don't you shut up? I saved her life!"

"Because I'm her brother and need to-"

"Both of you shut up!"

Ron and Paisley instantly became quiet as Harry checked Ginny and Hermione checked Hazel.

"Are they okay?" Luna asked, her voice barely audible.

Harry smiled. "Ginny seems to be."

Hermione shot up from her crouching position by Hazel. "Who used the "obliviate" spell?"

She glared at each wizard in turn. Eventually, Harry raised his hand. "I thought it would hit the monster..."

Hermione backed away from Harry in horror. "But...but you KNEW the monster had a force field around it!"

Harry's eyes flashed behind his glasses, and Ron thought stupidly of Jason and his glasses. "I saw it flicker for a second so I threw the first spell that came to mind!"

Hermione looked close to tears. "But you knew it wasn't going to work! Why would you do this Harry?!"

Harry shook his head angrily and stormed off.

"Mate, wait!" Ron called and started to jog towards Harry. Hermione, however, held out her wand and cast a Flipendo jinx.

Ron glared at her, outraged. "Don't knock me backwards with that spell!"

Hermione held up her chin. "It's a jinx."

Ron marched over to her. "Harry needs us. We're the only ones who understand him. He had good reason to cast the memory-removing spell. We should listen to him!"

Hermione shouted right back. "There's no reversing the spell! He probably did it full-strength! He must've known it would rebound and hit someone! She's gone, Ronald! GONE!"

Wiping her eyes furiously, Hermione walked back over to Hazel and knelt down by her.

"Finite Incantatum," she said quietly.

Ron snorted. "That's to stop current spells, genius!"

Hermione clenched her wand tighter. "If you ever picked up a book on magic, Ronald, you would know it takes a while for the Obliviate spell to fully work. I'm trying to stop further damage to her mind."

Neville tugged on Ron's arm before he could retort and steered him to Ginny. "Watch your sister." He commanded.

Ron crossed his arms and huffed.

Behind him, he hear Hermione, Luna, Draco, Paisley, and Neville casting spells around the Crocotta's body.

It had been Stunned. Paisley had run in just as the Crocotta had lunged towards Ginny. Harry had been in despair, trying to break down the barrier while Hermione was trying every spell in existence. Just as Paisley attacked the monster, Ginny's Shield charm broke and every wizard and witch cast a spell to immobilize the Crocotta. Harry had apparently cast a memory-removing charm, while Ron went on a more subtle approach with an "Incarcerous" spell. As far as he knew, Luna did "Stupefy," Neville "Immobulus," Draco "Tarantallegra," and Hermione did "Avis." Ron felt like laughing remembering Hermione doing that spell when he was dating Lavender Brown and sending little birds at him. Then he turned stony again remembering they were having a slight row.
