I found myself lying in my own bedroom in Bag End. I nestled underneath the comfy sheets that were spread across my mattress. I held Sweet Pea tightly in my arms. Out of nowhere, I heard the pitter patter of footsteps outside my door.

"Who's there?" I asked, fearfully. The noise became louder and louder.

"Who...Who's there?" I heard an eerie creaking noise. The large golden knob on my door twisted and turned in the darkness. Then, the door finally opened.

I saw a tall, menacing silhouette standing in front of me. I felt a heavy lump in my throat. I got up from my bed and I walked apprehensively upon the cold, stone floor towards the mysterious figure standing in the hallway.

"Show yourself!" I shuddered. I saw a familiar face looking back at me with sorrowful eyes.

"Brianna? Is that you?"

"F-F-Frodo? W-What are you doing?"

"F-F-Frodo? W-What are you doing?"

"I was checking up on you." Frodo answered in a kind, compassionate voice. "To make sure that you're alright."

"Frodo, I'm perfectly fine." I replied.

"Are you sure, my darling?"

"Yes. I'm fine."I reassured him.

"You look frightened."

"Not anymore. I didn't realize that you were standing outside my room."

"I'm so sorry, my dear. I didn't mean to startle you like that." he apologized.

"It's okay, Frodo. I'm going to head back to bed. Good night."

"Goodnight, dear." Frodo gave me a tender kiss on the forehead and headed down the hallway towards his room. As soon I stepped back into my bedroom, I heard a blood-curdling cry.

"Frodo? Frodo!" I ran back into the hallway and I saw Frodo on the floor being dragged by his feet.

"Aghhh!!!!" Frodo screamed in terror

"Aghhh!!!!" Frodo screamed in terror. The darkness had swallowed him whole.

I got on my knees and wept into the palms of my hands. "No! Don't leave me! No! No!Frodo!"

A cold breeze blew across the floor. Something touched me on the shoulder. I screamed in terror. Then, that was the end of it.

The end....

The end........

The....

End..........

I woke up in hysteria. My heart was pounding like a drum. Sweat was beading down my forehead. My throat was as dry as as the Sahara Desert.

I felt as if everything was caving in around me. My cheeks were as white as snow. A cold chill sent shivers down my spine. My vision became blurry. I felt something stroke me softly on the forehead.

"Listen to me....Listen to me....you're going to be alright...." said an indistinct male voice. " Look at me...."

"I...I-I'm.....S-So...C-C-Cold." I quivered.

My vision quickly came back to me. Merry was crouching down beside me, trying to get me to calm down. He took both of my hands and rubbed in between his to keep me warm.

"M-M-Merry." Icy tears were falling down from my eyes and down onto my cheeks. "M-M-Merry?"

"Shhh, it's over. It's over. It's going to be alright. It's going to be alright. I'm right here. I'm here."

Merry got up and sat down behind me, clasped his arms around my waist, and lowered my head down gently into his lap.

"Wha....What...happened?" I gasped loudly.

"You had a dreadful nightmare." he told me.

"Oh, M-Merry."

Merry carefully placed his right hand on my sweaty forehead and patted it delicately.

"Hush, hush. Shh. Shh.There, there. I'm here now. There's nothing to be afraid of."

"It was so horrible, Merry." I whimpered. Merry nodded his head. "I know, I know. Would you like to tell me about what happened in your nightmare?"

My lips trembled in fear. I had a hard time spitting out the words that I wanted to say.

"F-F-F...." I shuddered. "F-F-Frodo! It was Frodo!" I cried out in a vociferous voice.

"What happened to Frodo?" Merry asked me, sympathetically.

"H-He....f-f-fell.....and....w-w-was....d-d-dragged a-away.....b-b-by...the darkness. He l-left....me. He left me!"

"Shhh." Merry pressed his index finger on my lips to try to soothe me. He continued to brush my tears away. "I'm very sorry to hear that. I'm so sorry."

"I miss Frodo." I whimpered again.

"I know. I miss him, too." Merry reassured. "I miss him, too. I'm sure he's going to be quite alright."

"How do you know?" I asked, doubtfully.

"Sam is with him."

"What if Sam is dead?!"

"Shhh, I don't think Sam is dead. I understand that it's hard without Frodo, I really do. But, look on the bright side. I'm here with you."

"You're right, Merry." I snivelled. "At least I have you."

Pity grew in Merry's heart. "There, there." he soothed. Merry kissed me softly on my temple. "Close your eyes. Go to sleep."

I lowered my eyelids slowly. Merry protectively held my shivering body close to him and crooned, "I will sing you a lullaby. A song to bring you peace."

Don't cry, all is good
Take refuge in my arms, be at peace
I am your protector, my beloved
Don't cry, here I am
So small but yet so strong
I keep you safe and warm
Our bond will be never-ever torn asunder
Don't cry, here I am
In my heart
You're in my heart
Love endures until the end of the world
In my heart
Whatever happens
You're in my heart
Always
