Night began to fall over the charred remains of the battle. I think we lost.

By, about, 9:30 in the evening the last of the flames that licked at the encampment had gone out. The pavilion had become a blackened mess of wood and ash. All in all, a bit more appealing than Fraywood.

"What should we do now guys," Anya asked, "I think our military careers are over."

"We could go back to Night Wind and get drunk." Al suggested.

That reminded me of what was in my pocket. I pulled the bone shard from my pocket. I snapped out a few low level ball lightning spells to get some light. The rune was ancient; probably hundreds, if not thousands, of years old. The inscription on it was in some old language, older than Valeic.

"What is that?"Allister asked.

"It's called the Rune of Oldfyre." I said.

"What is it?" Anya inquired.

"I haven't got the slightest idea," I admitted, "I got it from some transvestite dwarf back in Night Wind."

"Why would they give you some random piece of bone." Allister asked, snickering at the last part.

"He said to deliver it to King Watsisname."

"You mean the same King Watsisname that's probably dead down there." Anya asked, pointing at the charred ramparts and caravans.

"Well, yeah." I said. We searched the battle field thoroughly, the no king, nor his corpse.

"Maybe he ran back to Incursia," I suggested, "We could head there."

"You want us to walk across the country just to deliver a piece of bone?" Allister

"Would you rather go back to Fraywood?" I asked. "Plus, it's Incursia, the city of coloured glass."

"I guess anything beats Fraywood." Allister agreed.

"So we walk south, very south, deliver a rune, and then... What?" Anya asked.

"I figure we'll burn that bridge when we cross it." I said.

"I don't think that's how that phrase goes." Allister said.

"My Uncle used to say it a lot; the again, he turned out to be an arsonist." I said. Ah memories.

"So we walk?" Asked Anya.

"We walk." Am and I said.

So faced south and began walking.
