I tried to pull away, but his firm hand kept my lips on his. For a quick second I kissed him back, but then I reversed his grip and he was on the ground and I was pinning his arm behind his back.
"You're insane!" I exclaim.
"It calmed you down, didn't it?" He teased me.
"Samantha Baker? Cade Johnson?" A man with a deep voice called appearing.
I gave Cade a fearful look and let him go. He got to his feet and gave me a reassuring look.
"Yes, sir." He answers bluntly.
"You're needed for a hunt. Level 5. Meet at the gym at 4:45am tomorrow morning." The man said then turned away.
"No." I whispered underneath my breath.
I stayed silent as Cade laughed.
"What's wrong?" He questioned.
"It's another level 5 hunt." I quiver.
"At least you won't be alone." He says with cheerfulness.
I giggle at his ignorant remark and push him sideways making a way for me to get through. I felt him follow me back to the dorms. We opened the door and there stood Hazel, Ash, Chase and another boy from Top Class named Jake. They all had the look of pure terror pasted on their faces.
"What's wrong?" I ask fearfully.
"Another level 5 hunt." Ash fills me in.
"All of us?" I ask.
"Yeah." Chase answers.
Jake turns without a word and walks to his dorm room. I trip forward as Cade pushes past me. He laughs at my fear.
"Sam, I just wanted to say-" Chase starts but I interrupt him.
"Can we just focus on the hunt?" I requested.
Chase looks at his feet and whispers, "uh, yeah."
He turns and follows Jake to their dorm rooms. I walk over to Hazel who's face is now buried in Ash's chest. Ash gave me a soft smile and pulled away from Hazel. She pulled me into an embrace and I felt tears soak into my shirt.
"I'm so sorry." She whispers.
"No. I'm sorry. I was scared. What if the vampire was right? What if that's why that demon came after me?" I questioned fearfully.
"Then we will figure it out. We always do." Hazel reassures me wrapping her arm around me.
"I hope so." I said guiding her towards the stairs.
...
My much needed sleep was awakened by a small, gentle voice hissing, "wake up!"
I rolled onto my side and groaned. My eyelids refused to open.
"Sam! We need you today!" Hazel exclaimed beginning to shake me.
I don't respond.
I hear Hazel move out of the way as she says, "they're serving breakfast in the gym."
I feel a rush of energy flow into me and within a second I'm on my feet getting dressed. After I was completely ready, I swung my bow and arrows over my shoulder and grabbed my pack. I followed Hazel down to the gym and pushed the doors open. In one corner sat the very horrified Jake, and the other was Ash and Cade. They had all their supplies, but their expressions showed nothing but exhaustion. I inched over to Jake as Hazel walked over to Ash.
"Hey, Jake." I say gently.
"Hi." He snaps.
"Listen, we'll be here for everything. We've got your back. You'll be fine." I say warmly trying to a reassure him.
