Cade lead the eigth graders to a hiding place as I scouted the area. I couldn't find any signs of devil dogs by sight, but their stench reeked everywhere. After ten minutes, I found the house. I went back to announce to Cade and the others my finding, but just as I turned the corner someone grabbed me. I reversed the grip but they tackled me. Their form was disgraceful but then I recognized the person.
"Jacob?" I ask.
Suddenly I feel a sharp pinch on my neck and I turn to face Jay.
"Hello, again Sammy." Jay smirks before my limbs go numb and I fall helplessly into Jacob's grasp.
...
"Sam!!" Cade yells.
"What?" I ask shaking myself awake.
"Sam are you okay? Did they hurt you?" Cade asks.
I blink a couple times and my eyes focus. I'm tied to a metal pole, sitting on a freezing stone floor. There are no windows, only a dark hallway in the corner of the room. I glance over at Cade who's bleeding.
"No, but what happened?" I demand.
"They killed all the kids. Shot them without blinking. Then when I went for Jacob, Jay came up behind me and hit me in the head with a rock." Cade explains.
"Are you okay?" I ask in distress.
"Oh shut up." A voice calls from the dark hallway.
"Who's there?" I demand yanking at my iron chains.
Jacob steps into the candle light.
"Shut up with the stupid love stuff. We get it you love him." Jacob asks approaching me.
"Don't. Touch. Me." I snarl at him.
"Oh don't worry, I wouldn't dream of it. I'm under special orders from the boss I'm not to touch you. I can still wish though." He smirks at me.
"You disgusting-"
"What are you gunna do about it, Samantha? Oh wait, you're chained to a pole. And guess who put you there? Me." He says with pride.
"And who's gunna kill you when we get out? Me." Cade says contently.
"You, on the other hand-" Jacob smiles devilishly.
"STAY AWAY FROM HIM!" I scream pulling harder on the chains.
"You shut up!" He says before punching Cade in the face with all his might.
The blow sent Cade's head onto the floor.
"STOP!" I shriek.
"I said-" he starts but Cade trips him and pulls Jacob towards him before head butting Jacob.
Jacob passes out cold and Cade grabs his keys with his mouth.
Suddenly footsteps sound in the hallway. Cade tosses me the keys and I catch them swiftly. Jay storms in at that second.
"Dammit, Jacob. He's gunna be pissed." Jay whispers.
"Who?" I ask muffling the sound of the key turning in the lock.
"You're about to find out." Jay says grabbing me.
Just as she touches my arm I jump up and slam her head into the pole. She stumbles over before I land a swift kick to her temple. She passes out straight onto the floor. I unlock Cade's handcuffs and he pulls me into a hug.
"I'm so sorry." He whispers.
"Come on." I say grabbing his hand and pulling him out of the room. Just before we reach the doorway, someone walks past. I duck into the cover of the shadows. I look down the hallway and recognize the figures immediately. My blood turns cold and goosebumps rise on my arms.
"Demons. This place is crawling with demons." I whisper to Cade in terror.
"What?" He hisses before looking where I did and turning back with a horrified look.
"What do we do??" I ask.
Cade looks as if he is conflicted internally. He is measuring and thinking deeply.
"Cade, what is it?" I ask.
"Sam, I-"
"What?" One demon asks appearing in front of us.
All of a sudden, Cade throws me behind him and begins chanting. I didn't understand a word of it, but the demon was raging. He was screeching, but stationary. Suddenly, every demon in the hallway dropped to the floor.
"What the hell?" I demand but Cade grabs me.
"There's no time to explain-" Cade begins but I stop him.
"Make time." I order.
"Sam-"
"No. Cade Johnson I am tired of all the lies. You are telling me now or you are never talking to me again." I hiss at him.
Cade sighs deeply before pulling me along and saying, "my real dad is the king of hell. The true prophecy is that the son of the king and the daughter of the queen will slay the king of hell, but blood must have blood. In order for us to fulfill the prophecy, one of us has to die. My dad kidnapped us to he could be sure to kill you, except he doesn't know that the only way to do that is to kill me first." Cade says quickly.
I walk in silence and shock. I don't know what scares me more. That Cade knew, or that I didn't.
"Sam, say something." Cade pleads turning a corner.
"I don't want this." I say stopping.
"What?" He asks.
"I don't want to be the prophecy. I didn't ask to kill the King of Hell. I don't want to have you protecting me. I don't want my powers, my destiny, or my life." I whisper truthfully.
"I know it's hard to accept but we don't have time for this, we have to get out." Cade says hugging me.
A bellowing chuckle comes from behind us.
"You're not leaving, son."
