Hunt

Ash took Cade to the office to find his dorm. After this long day, I was ready to go to bed. I slid my knife underneath the pillow after I took a cold shower. My damp hair lay tangled on my shoulders as I brushed my teeth. Hazel appeared in the mirror when I spit and I turned to face her.

"Are you sure you're up for a hunt?" She questions me with a worried tone.

"I'm fine. I was just really upset and kind of freaking out. I'm okay now, I promise." I sincerely tell her.

"Alright. I'll be right behind you." Hazel promised me walking outside and slipping into bed.

I follow her and slide underneath the covers. My bed had never felt so comfortable. Before I knew it, I was drifting into a dreamless sleep.

...

"Come on, Sami. It's go time." Hazel gently says shaking me awake.

My eyes flutter open to see an outfit laid on my bed, two fully packed bags, and my arrows and bow near the door ready to go.

"I don't know what I'd do without you." I say giggling.

"You'd be screwed." Hazel teases me.

I get up and change into the clothes. I have a grey t-shirt with a leather jacket and slick, black pants. My combat boots are zipped to my lower calf and my hair is pulled up into a pony tail. I slip on the backpack and somehow fit my arrows over the top of it. I hold the bow in my hand. For a second, everything felt right. I followed the well-prepared Hazel out of the door and all the way down to the cafeteria. We strut in five minutes early, meeting Becca, Ash, Tanner, and Cade. He stared at me as soon as I entered. I glared back and continued walking over to Ash. He gave Hazel a soft, side-smile. She returned it and looked down at her feet. Her sword fit tightly into her scabbard. If you saw her without all her weaponry, she would seem like a perfectly innocent teenage girl. If you were so unlucky to believe it, that'd probably be your last mistake. I swung my bow around my shoulder and strapped my knife holsters to my ankles. It was still dark outside when the supervisor strolled into the cafeteria barking orders.

"Alright, kids. Today you're going to terminate a rebellion group of vampires. There have been mysterious kidnaps in that area, and nobody has turned up alive. I want you to save any survivors, and eliminate any vampire you can find." He ordered without emotion.

We had our assignment, now we had to do it. They led us to the truck that we would be traveling in, and we all filed in. The truck was disguised as some food company, but inside held benches for some of the most dangerous demelic individuals on the planet. We took our seats and Becca immediately started flirting with Cade.

"So, do you have a girlfriend?" Becca questions.

I roll my eyes at how she would throw herself at any guy without thinking first.

"No, but I'm not on the market either." Cade answers plainly.

"Oh, you will be." Becca says tucking her strawberry-blonde hair behind her ear.

She batted her fake eyelashes and used her green eyes as a lure to draw Cade in. I couldn't help myself, laughter raised up from my chest into my mouth. I chuckle at Becca's obvious desperation. Hazel punches my arm and I hold back the rest of my laugh. Tanner starts smiling too, along with eventually Hazel. Ash sits in the corner silently, and emotionless. I don't understand what Hazel sees in him. They aren't officially dating, but they've been an unofficial item since the fifth grade. Becca snootily scoffs and crosses her arms stubbornly over her chest. Cade smirks at me as I glare at him continuously.

"Guys, just reminding you that we are going to need these." The driver says throwing a duffle bag full of steaks.

"This is a joke right?" Tanner asks.
