I shook my head in disbelief and walked out of the room. At first, I thought of opening the door and waking him up but then he had earlier mentioned that he was thinking about this the whole night, meaning he hadn't slept well. I quietly walked down the stairs.

Hopefully, Poppy's temper must be calmed down a bit. I had to apologize to her. I ruined her party and I felt guilty for chopping her eyebrows off though it was funny. But if she attacks me with forks and knives, fortunately, mum and dad were at home to protect me.

I nervously opened the kitchen door where usually all of us gathered in the morning for breakfast. It was winter holidays so all of us were not worried to hurry and rush to where we were supposed to be. I peeked into the kitchen. Mom was near the stove stirring some porridge whereas dad was reading the newspaper. Poppy's back was turned to me and I sighed.

I cautiously walked and sat on the chair farthest to Poppy. She was busy digging in the bowl filled with milk and cereal. Mom passed me a cup of coffee and I sipped it. Poppy looked up at me and I too stared at her. Her face contained faint stains of makeup and instead of my sketched zigzag eyebrows, was thin black ones which seemed close to real.

"I am sorry - "

"Nah, it's fine. It's better that I did not go to the party. I heard it was a total disaster and I was the lucky one who got saved from all that poo," Poppy said and shrugged. I ran to her and hugged tightly from behind. "Just don't kiss me. I'm saving it for the captain of the soccer team."

"No kissing till you are married, Poppy," Mom said sternly and I giggled.

Poppy frowned and explained, "It's kissing mom! Everybody does that and I'm sure Abby must have done it too."

She winked at me and I groaned. Mom placed her hands on her hips and reasoned out, "She's smart enough to know the difference between right or wrong. And those rules apply only to you."

She rolled her eyes and muttered, "Yeah, whatever. Anyway, it's not that I am going to have sex with that cute captain unless you allow me to." She licked the spoon and batted her eyelashes at mum dramatically. I smacked her head and Mom threw a threatening look at Poppy and took a step towards her. Poppy ran to dad and hugged him. Dad ruffled her hair and Mum accused him of spoiling her. I smiled and walked to the refrigerator. This was the daily morning routine of our sweet home.

"You hear that noise dad? It's coming from upstairs," Poppy said to dad. I quickly kept the milk carton away. There was faint noises of banging of a door. It was definitely the boy from the other side of the closet. I wiped my mouth and mentally cursed him.

"It's from your room honey. I should go up and check," Dad told me and got up. I ran towards the entrance of the kitchen door and blocked his way.

I laughed awkwardly and said, "I should go. You stay here dad, it might be some pests marching around my room."

"Okay. But honey, aren't you scared of those pests?"

"Believe me, you don't want to know the truth," I muttered and ran upstairs.
