Seth opened his eyes an hour and a half later to see someone sitting in the chair beside his bed. This time though it was not his mother. It was Kyle.
Seth quickly sat up and pushed himself to the opposite side of the bed, away from Kyle. Pain surged through his side. He clenched his teeth biting the pain, and frowned.
"I'm sorry...i didn't mean to startle you." Kyle said apologetically, tears gleaming in his eyes.
Seth wasn't sure what to do. Should he try to get help or just see what Kyle wanted? Either way he could feel his heart's pace begin to quicken.
"I just...i had to com and see if you were alright." He said playing with his hands nervously as he stared down at the floor. "I-I don't know what happened. I just, i remember knocking on your door and asking if you were alright and then everything went blank and i couldn't remember anything till a couple hours later. It all just hit me then. Everything i did to you. I." Kyle choked on his word as a tear rolled down his face. "I kept yelling at myself to stop but i couldn't. I couldn't stop myself."
Seth wanted to say something. To tell Kyle it wasn't his fault, that he had been possessed by an evil to deep to comprehend. But he couldn't make his mouth form the words.
He was still afraid of Kyle. Scared that in any moment he might try to kill him again. There was no saying what could happen. But he wanted his brother to know he hadn't done it; he wasn't to blame.
He knew though if he said anything his voice woild surly fail him and Kyle would know how afraid he really was of him, of what he could become. There was no saying when or why it would happen, he just knew it could. But he had to try.
"It wasn't your fault." He said smoothly, keeping the fear hidden inside. Controlling it.
Kyle didn't say anything, just stared. Seth waited, his heart beating harder with every second.
"But, what i did to you, it wasn't...i could have killed you!" Kyle finally blurted out shaking his head.
"But you didn't."
"Thus time. What if it happens again, what then."
"Don't say that," Seth said feeling rhe anger and fear swelling up inside. "You dont know that it will happen again."
"Ya, but i don't know that it wont."
There was silence between the two of them. Neither were willing to look the other in the eye because they both knew what Kyle was saying was true.
"Um...mum was in here earlier asking about what had happened."
"What um, what did you tell her?"
"That i didn't remember much and i didn't want to talk about it. But we both know she's going to keep asking. We're gonna have to give her an answer at some point."
"Ya...i know, but we can't tell her the truth."
"I know. I've been thinking about that. Say you walked in and i was on the floor and you felt it was your fault because you weren't there to help me. Simple as that." Seth said, his spirits sinking as a knot began to form in his throat. Lies, lies, and more lies.
"What will you tell the?" Kyle asked feeling just as bad about it.
Seth shrugged. "That someone broke in and i went to check it out thinking it was you or that they came back. And whoever it was jumped me. And i don't remember anything else, just pain. Making it seem as though im traumatized i guess.." he said not much emotion in his voice.
"Ya...hopefully they'll believe us."
"Ya."
"So...how are you actually feeling?"
"My side hurts a little. The doctor said i broke some ribs so I'm sure that's why, but its not to bad the doctor gave so something for the pain. I feel pretty bruised up though and my head is kind of hurting. Other than that i just feel tired."
Kyle shook his head. I could tell it pained him to hear what he'd done to me. "I hope you will feel better. I'm reallynsorry again. I....guess ill let you get some more rest while i sort things out with mum and dad.
"Good luck." Seth said trying to be somewhat cheery.
"Thanks, I'll need it."
They each gave a feeble smirk then Kyle got up and walked towards the door. He opened it half way the just before stepping out he turned and said, "I swear that wasn't me." Then walked the rest of the way out. Leaving the room in silence once again.
"I believe you Kyle." Seth said then sighed and closed his eyes. He didn't want to think about anything, he didn't want to have to worry about anything in his life at the moment. It was all so surreal. He just wanted to forget. And that's exactly what he did as the warmth of sleel took him from all his troubles.
