The day after Dean's birthday, Sam and Dean were out on a hunt with Dad, and since Marissa wanted to take Cam for the day, Declan and I made plans to go out and have a little fun. We started our day at the local diner enjoying breakfast, then arguing over who was going to pick up the bill (big brother won that one). After we had both had our fill of food, we made our way to the movie theater and found a triple feature that would keep us busy until at least dinner time. Halfway through the second film, my phone started buzzing like crazy. No matter how much I ignored it, it just kept ringing, so I excused myself to the lobby and answered it. "Hello?" I said. "Sammi girl," I heard Dean say. "It's about time you answered your phone. I've only been calling you for the last twenty minutes." "I apologize, but I was enjoying a day out with my brother," I told him. "We're at the movies. What's going on?" "You're going to feel like you're experiencing deja vu here, but you're needed down at the hospital," he said. "And what about my brother?" I asked. "What am I supposed to do? Just leave him here?" "Which movie theater are you at?" Dean asked. "The one at the mall or the one downtown?" "The one downtown," I said. "I'll send your dad over to get Declan," Dean promised. "Just let him know that there is an emergency and you need to leave." "What kind of an emergency are we talking about?" I asked. "And what do you mean I'm going to feel like I'm having deja vu? Where's Sam?" "I promise to explain everything once you get here," Dean said. "Just go get your brother and wait outside. Your dad is on his way." Now that I was confused and scared as Hell, I put my phone back in my pocket and went back into the theater to find my brother. I grabbed a hold of his wheelchair and wheeled him out onto the sidewalk, waiting for any sign of our dad. "What's going on?" Declan asked. "I wish I knew," I said. "All Dean would tell me is that there was an emergency, that Dad is coming to get you, and that I needed to get to the hospital as soon as possible." "Is Sam ok?" Declan asked. "I don't know," I replied. "Dean said he would explain everything once I got there, but he also said it might feel like deja vu to me." "Deja vu, huh?" Declan said. "Maybe Sam's in a coma, like you were." "No...could that be what he meant??" I started panicking. "Sam's had A LOT of injuries that landed him in the hospital, though. It could be anything." "Whatever it is, Sam will get through it and so will you," Declan said. "Y'all are both very strong people." I didn't even have time to react to his last comment when Dad pulled up and helped Declan into his truck. "Go and be with your husband," he told me. "He needs you right now." He offered me a hug, which I accepted and then headed for home as I made my way to the car and raced to the hospital. I ran through the emergency room doors and up to the check in desk to find out where I might be able to locate Sam when Dean came walking around the corner. As he escorted me to the room where Sam was being kept, he started talking. "I'm not going to sugarcoat this, princess," he said. "There was a little accident today and Sam was the unfortunate one of the three of us." "How bad is it?" I asked. "And what about this deja vu??" "He's alive, but unresponsive," Dean said. "So it's like Declan said," I stated. "He's in a coma, like I was." "Yeah," Dean replied. "The doctors say he WILL wake up, but they aren't sure how long it's going to take." "What the Hell happened out there??" I asked. "We were attacked by a group of what I think were Leviathans," Dean said. "One of them hit Sam in the back of the head and he went down. The doctors said they must have hit him in just the right spot because it triggered something in his brain that caused him to go into shock." "And that shock led to the coma?" I asked. "Something like that, yeah," Dean said. We finally made it to the room and Dean allowed me to go first. As I slowly made my way to Sam's bedside, I stared at his face. He didn't look hurt at all; he just looked like he was sleeping. Is that how I looked to them when I was in my coma? I grabbed a hold of his hand and kissed his cheek, then broke down in tears. Dean walked over and put a hand on my shoulder. "I can stay with him if it's too much for you," he offered. "Your Dad and Marissa already volunteered to handle Cam for you, so you can either stay here, or come and go as you please without having to worry about your son." "He stayed with me the entire time I was out cold, didn't he?" I asked. "He only left your side to eat and use the bathroom," Dean said. "Then I owe it to him to do the same," I said. "You are welcome to stay with me if you want, but you don't have to." "Are you sure you're going to be ok?" Dean asked. "It's just a lot to process," I assured him. "First me, now him...what a way to start our new year, huh?" "To be fair, your accident happened mid last year," Dean said. "You knew what I meant," I told him, playfully hitting him. "Do you need anything from me before I go check in with your dad?" he asked. "No, thank you," I said. "You've done more than enough. Go home and get some rest. You'll be the first person I call if anything happens." Dean gave me a hug and left the room. If I had known then just how long I was going to be spending in that hospital....
