November 26, 2015 - Ahh yes, another Thanksgiving had arrived. Of course in my crazy family, the fact that we made it through almost another year was a blessing in itself. So naturally we were all thankful for that, but since we'd had situations arise on Thanksgivings past, we were all wondering if we would get through the day without at least ONE occurrence. Since my sister and her husband were supposed to show up, Marissa's biggest fear was they would get into an accident or something worse. The rest of us, however, were worried that our dinner might be interrupted by some supernatural being either showing up in our home/yard OR that the boys would get called to go investigate elsewhere. Hey, it's happened before. While the boys watched the parade with the kids, Marissa, Dad, and I were busy in the kitchen prepping the food. That's when my cell phone rang...it was Scar. "I'll be back in a few," I told Dad and Marissa. They still didn't know about Scarlett's pregnancy, so I knew I had to take the call in private. I walked upstairs to my bedroom and closed the door. "Hey sis," I said. "What's up? Are you guys alright?" "We're fine," she answered. "Well, sort of fine. I woke up in excruciating pain this morning, so we're at the hospital." "Oh no!" I exclaimed. "Is everything alright with the baby??" "They're running all sorts of tests, but I still feel her kicking, so hopefully that's a good sign," she said. "Her?" I replied. "You're having a little girl??" "We are," she said. "We're going to name her Mia Lynn, after both of our mothers." "Oh my god, that's awesome!" I said excitedly. "So I'm guessing that means you're not going to make it to dinner." "We're so sorry, sis," she said sadly. "I was really looking forward to seeing everyone again. I wanted to meet the kids so bad. Drew is just as upset." "Hey, don't you two worry about it," I told her. "Baby is first priority now. The gang will understand. But that means someone is going to have to spill the beans." "Would you tell them for me, please?" she asked. "I obviously wanted them to see for themselves, but that's not going to happen now." "Are you sure you don't want to tell them yourself?" I asked. "I trust you, and so does Drew," she said. "Please?" "Alright," I agreed. "You get some rest and please call me when you get an update on my niece." "I will," she promised. "Love you sis, and happy Thanksgiving." "Happy Thanksgiving to you and Drew," I said, and I hung up the phone. I was getting ready to make my way back downstairs when Sam appeared at the door. "Everything okay, sweetie?" he asked. "I sure hope so," I replied. "That was Scarlett. She and Drew aren't going to make it. She's in the hospital with nasty pains. They're running every test in the book right now." "I'm sorry, baby," he said, giving me a hug. "I know how much you were looking forward to having the whole family here this year." "As long as she and the baby are both okay, I'm fine with them not being here," I smiled. "Wait, baby?" Sam asked. "Your sister is pregnant??" "Six months this month," I smiled. "And she's having a little girl." "That's awesome!" Sam exclaimed. "Why am I just learning this now?" "She didn't want anyone to know until she got here," I told him. "Declan and I were the only ones who knew ahead of time, for obvious reasons." "So now what?" Sam asked. "Is she going to call your Dad's phone and tell him?" "Nope," I answered. "She's elected me to share the news with everyone." "Well what are you waiting for?" he asked, giving me a kiss. "Let's go share the news." We made our way back downstairs and I gathered everyone in the living room to let them in on Scarlett's condition. "Who was on the phone, pumpkin?" Dad asked. "It was Scar," I answered. "She and Drew aren't going to be able to make it today." "Oh my goodness, were they in an accident?" Marissa panicked. "I knew something bad was going to happen." "Relax," Sam assured her. "There wasn't any accident." "Oh," Marissa said. "Thank heavens." "Scarlett woke up in excruciating pain this morning, so Drew had to rush her to the hospital," I started. "They are running all sorts of tests at the moment to make sure it's nothing serious." "I've woken up in excruciating pain and no one took me to the hospital," Dean said. "You are a hunter who gets hurt quite frequently," I pointed out. "Plus, you are a man. You can't have babies." "Wait a minute, back it up," Dad said. "Are you saying your sister is having a baby??" "That is what I am saying," I replied. "She was going to show you when they arrived, but obviously that's not happening now, so she asked me to share the news." "This is so amazing!" Marissa exclaimed. "Another little grandbaby to spoil." "When is she due?" Dad asked. "In February," Declan chimed in. "Wait, you knew too?" Dean was confused. "For obvious reasons, Dean," I said. "He's her twin, so of course she was going to tell him before anyone else." "Well I suppose that makes sense," Dean replied. "So am I getting another grandson or a granddaughter?" Dad asked. "A granddaughter," I answered. "They are naming her Mia Lynn after mom and Drew's mom." "That's so great," Dad smiled. "I hope she and the baby are both going to be alright." "She promised she would call as soon as she knows anything," I told him. "Don't take this the wrong way, I love your family Sammi, but I'm starving," Dean chimed in. "Can we please get some finger foods or something in here?" We all started laughing as Dad and Marissa made their way back into the kitchen to continue cooking our Thanksgiving feast. My sister kept her promise to call back when she had any news, and it turned out that she was in pre-term labor. They gave her some medicine to stop the contractions and were going to keep her in the hospital for observation for a few days to make sure the medicine was doing its job. Suddenly I was having flashbacks to when I was pregnant with Cam and wound up having to go on bed rest for the remainder of my pregnancy. I told her I hoped everything worked out so she didn't have to go through the same thing, but as long as she and Mia were alright, that was the main thing. We may not have gotten the family feast we had hoped for that year, but no one died and the boys didn't have to leave, so it was a good day for all. And that, my friends, was something I could be thankful for.
