Sam was allowed to go home four days after he woke up. Since he had been in a coma for a little over 4 months, and had missed quite a few special days, he decided to plan a date day for the two of us where we celebrated everything and anything. Since Dad and Marissa were out of town for a reunion of some kind, Declan and Dean offered to help with Cam. I had gone to the store the day before and picked up three gifts for Sam, one for each special day he had missed (Valentine's Day, his birthday, and our anniversary). Little did I know that he had done exactly the same thing for me. We started off with an amazing breakfast, where we each presented our Valentine's gifts to one another. Our next stop was the miniature golf course. We got there pretty early, so we were the only ones there and were able to take our time playing. We played two rounds and then decided it was time to move on to our next activity. At that point, it was right around lunch time, so we made our way to the Chinese restaurant to enjoy a nice, quiet lunch. I handed Sam his birthday gift, and he reciprocated by doing the same for me. "It looks like we both had the same idea," I smiled. "You know you didn't have to get me anything, sweetie," he said. "Well I could say the same to you, you know," I told him. "Touche," he laughed. "I'm just enjoying our time together. I wish I could get back those four months..." "Hey, don't spoil the moment with some depressing talk," I said. "Besides, it wasn't your fault you were down so long." "You're absolutely right, babe," he smiled. "Let's just see where the rest of the day takes us, shall we?" After opening our gifts and finishing our meal, we headed back to the car and drove around for a while. I didn't really care where Sam was taking me next, because just having him there with me after his long ordeal was enough for me. I was so deep in thought that I didn't even realize the car had stopped. "Are you ok, sweetheart?" Sam asked. "What?" I replied. "Oh, yeah. I'm fine. I must've been daydreaming." He laughed. "We're at our next stop." I looked out the window and realized he had driven us to a beach. The view was absolutely amazing! "Wow," I said. "This is beautiful." "Isn't it?" he smiled. "I took the liberty of packing us some water clothes so we can enjoy it even more." "You really thought of everything, didn't you?" I asked. "I missed a lot while I was out cold," he said. "I know one day can't make it up to you, but I'd like to think it's a start." "No one ever said you had to make anything up to anyone," I told him. "But I do appreciate this, all of it. It's much needed after the last few months." He grabbed a duffel bag out of the back seat and we walked hand in hand to the changing area. Once we were both water ready, I ran playfully ahead of him and let him chase me into the ocean. We frolicked around in the water for what seemed like hours, splashing each other and acting like children, but it was totally worth it. When we both decided we'd had enough, we picked up the duffel bag and headed back for the changing area. After we both changed back into our dry clothes, it was off to dinner. While we waited for our dinner to be served, we each handed over the last of the gifts. A few smiles and kisses later, dinner arrived. We finished off with a shared dessert before paying the bill and heading back home for the evening. Before we got out of the car, I gave Sam a big kiss and said, "Thank you for an incredible day. I don't think I've had that much fun in a long time." "I'm glad you enjoyed yourself," he smiled. "I didn't really have much time to plan. I decided to go on a whim and see where it took us." "Well it worked quite well," I said. We made our way inside and were greeted by Dean. "Did you two kids have a nice time?" he asked. "The best," I smiled. "Glad to hear it, princess," he said. "Cam is down for the count, as is Declan. I was just waiting for you two to get back before I nodded off for the night." "Was my big brother worried we might not come home?" Sam teased. "After the year we've had, can you blame me?" Dean asked. "Dean's right, babe," I said. "First me, then you...we never know what's going to happen out there." "Point made," Sam said. "Thanks for helping with Cam tonight, Dean," I smiled. "If you'll excuse me, I need to take a shower." I made my way upstairs to the bedroom and got undressed. I set up my shower and stepped in, tilting my head back toward the water. As I massaged shampoo onto my scalp, I heard footsteps coming toward me. "I'll be done in a few minutes, sweetheart," I said. "Do you mind if I join you?" Sam asked. "Of course not," I said. He let himself in as I continued to lather my hair. I felt his hands moving around on my stomach as he said, "I can't believe we created another human life. And I can't believe there was a chance I could have missed the entire thing." "Stop thinking like that," I told him. "You woke up, you're here now, and you'll be there for our daughter's birth in a few months. Everything worked out just fine." "Speaking of our new little one, we still need a name," he smiled. "I was thinking maybe Catelyn Mary," I said. "Or something with Mary as the middle name." "With a C or a K, though?" Sam asked. "A C, like her big brother," I answered. "Either way, I like it," he said. "Really?" I asked. "Of course," he said. "Once again you've found a way to honor a deceased family member. And once again, it's one of mine and Dean's." "Call me sentimental," I smiled. "I can't help it." We finished up our shower, dried ourselves off, got dressed and headed to bed for the night. As I was laying there cuddled up to Sam, I couldn't help but think of how blessed we truly were, even with all the crazy and bad incidents we'd experienced throughout our entire relationship. I'm pretty sure I fell asleep with a smile on my face that night.
