I had just entered my sister's hospital room, hadn't even had a chance to breathe yet, when she looked at me and asked, "Who in the hell were those guys? They claimed to have a beef with Dad and wanted me to give him up, but I just couldn't do that. Is he in trouble? Were they bookies? Does he gamble??" "Before I say anything, I need you to  calm down," I replied. "What I'm about to tell you isn't easy to grasp...unless you're Declan, apparently." "So Declan knows those guys?" she sounded confused. I let out a sigh and said, "Yes and no. He knows what they are, and he's had his suspicions about whether they truly exist or not, but he found out the hard way too. It's actually what landed him in the wheelchair." "Those guys are the ones who put Declan in the chair??" she sounded mad. "I thought he was attacked by a dog." "He was attacked by a dog of sorts," I told her. "Let me ask you a question. Have you ever read any books about supernatural beings, such as ghosts, demons, angels, werewolves, vampires, etc?" "Who hasn't?" she answered. "I love the Twilight books." I laughed. "Ok. That's not what I meant, but we'll go with that. Declan was attacked by a werewolf. The two men who kidnapped you were demons." "Wait, so all those creatures you just named exist in real life?!" she exclaimed. "I thought they were just made up, creatures of fiction, you know?" "I didn't believe it at first either," I admitted. "I only started believing after I was attacked by the worst of the worst. I'm sure you've heard of the devil? Lucifer?" "Again, I thought those were just stories," she said. "Are you telling me you were attacked by Lucifer??" "Yes," I replied. "Back in 2009, I believe. That's how I met Sam and Dean. They were the ones who saved me from that evil man." "Wait, so Sam and Dean hunt these supernatural creatures?" she asked. "Yes," I said. "That's why we were always on the move. They look for cases involving the supernatural and they go to investigate. If they have to, they kill the creature who is causing mayhem." "Alright, so what does all this have to do with Dad and these demons?" she asked. "Dad is a hunter too," I explained. "He's been a hunter for years. It's the reason why he had to leave us behind. He didn't want to leave us, he didn't want to leave Mom, he had no choice. He was assigned to protect Marissa. She was being hunted by some supernatural being." "Oh wow," she said. "So he wasn't in love with Marissa when he left Mom?" "Not at all," I told her. "Mom was the love of his life. Marissa told me it took him a long time after he heard about Mom's death for him to love again." "This is a lot to process," she admitted. "I know," I said. "Declan was the same way. Oh, and get this, Dad isn't the only hunter in the family. Poppy was a hunter too. He's the one who taught Dad." "All those times Poppy said he was going fishing..." she started. "You're saying he was really going hunting?" "Yes," I answered. "And what about Uncle John?" she asked. "He was a hunter too," I said. "And guess what else? He was Sam and Dean's father." "Get out of here!" she exclaimed. "For real?? So that means Sam and Dean didn't save you by coincidence...it was meant to be!" "Oddly enough, I think their dad may have had something to do with it," I admitted. "I still haven't figured out how, though." "Drew and Mia are alright, aren't they?" she asked. "They're fine," I promised. "They are at the house with Dean, Grandma, Grandpa, and Cas." "I have always wanted to ask what his deal was," she admitted. "Is he a hunter too?" "Actually, no," I said. "Cas is short for Castiel. I know you went to church, so I'm just going to leave that out there." "Castiel as in the arch angel???" she was impressed. "Well he WAS an arch angel," I said. "He sacrificed a lot to help Sam and Dean over the years, so now he's just your typical angel." "This is all so crazy," she replied. "But at the same time, it's really awesome. Are you a hunter too?" "While you, me, and Declan all have hunter blood running through our veins, I am not a full-blooded hunter, no," I said. "I have helped out on hunts in the past, much to Dad, Sam, and Dean's chagrin. I have saved Sam and Dean a few times, even though they claim they had things under control. I have also gotten seriously hurt by supernatural creatures; came close to death quite a few times, too. Unlike the boys, I don't go looking for trouble. I will fight if I have to, though." "You always were the stronger sibling," Scarlett admitted. "Yes, Declan was sent off to the military, but you were even stronger than him. You are strong willed and have a good head on your shoulder. Plus, you definitely don't fight like a girl. That's probably why you could hold your own if need be." "You're not so bad yourself," I smiled. "Anyone else wouldn't have survived that nasty attack today." "So is Dad ok now?" she asked. "Those demons didn't capture him too, did they?" "Dad can hold his own," I said. "Him and Sam are actually out in the waiting room. They wouldn't have let me come here on my own, even though I wanted to kill those jerks just as badly as Dad did." "So he killed them, then?" she asked. "Oh yeah he did," I smiled. "They didn't stand a chance. One thing about Dad, and Sam and Dean, is that any monster who tries to mess with their family doesn't get a second chance to hurt anyone else." "You don't think any of them will attempt another chance on my life, do you?" she asked. "Or Drew's or Mia's?" "Have you had any weird occurrences over the years?" I asked her. "Anything out of the ordinary at all?" "None," she said. "We've had nothing but good things happen since we moved to Canada." "Then I would say this was most likely a one time thing," I told her. "Next time y'all come to visit, don't stay at a hotel. Dad and Marissa have extra rooms. They even have a nursery. You'd be safer staying there. In fact, I believe Drew took all your things from the hotel room and you will be going home with Dad. Did the doctor say how long you had to stay?" "He said because of the injured lung, they want me to stay overnight for observation," she said. "If everything looks good in the morning, they will release me tomorrow." "That's great," I smiled. "Tell you what...why don't you get some rest and I will bring your husband and daughter by later today for a visit?" "That sounds good to me," she said. "Thank you for explaining everything to me, sis. It may take me a while to get used to, but at least now I know in case anything like this ever happens again." "Don't worry," I told her. "We'll set you up with some weaponry to take home with you, show you how to use it IF you need to." I kissed her forehead. "I'll see you later." I left the room and made my way back into the waiting room. "Is she going to be ok?" Dad asked. "She was in good spirits when I left," I assured him. "The doctor told her that they need to keep her overnight for observation. If things look good tomorrow morning, they're going to release her." "Oh that's such a relief," Dad said. "Did you explain everything to her?" "She knows about our family business," I told him. "And about Sam and Dean, their dad, Poppy, all of it. I told her how Declan really ended up in the wheelchair. She was a little shocked, but I think she's going to be alright with it. She IS a Weston, after all. It's in her blood." Dad gave me a hug. "Thanks, Pumpkin." "What do you say we get back home, enjoy the rest of the party, and we can come back later with Drew and Mia?" Sam suggested. "Did you just read my mind?" I smiled, giving him a kiss. We made our way to the truck, hopped in, and went back home to the rest of the family to give them the update on my sister. As promised, Sam and I brought Drew and Mia to the hospital later that day to visit with Scarlett before visiting hours were over. As I was laying in bed cuddling with Sam that night, I thanked God that things didn't turn out any worse than they had. I was also thankful that I was able to explain everything to Scarlett without her completely freaking out. I slept pretty good that night...
