I woke up the next morning feeling well rested, yet my mind was still uneasy. I got up out of bed very quietly so I didn't disturb Sam and made my way down the stairs to check in on my brother. I opened his door and, as promised, Dean was sitting by his bedside keeping an eye on him. He caught me peeking in and gave me a double thumbs up, but seeing as I was still angry with him I just nodded my head and walked away. I thought about making some breakfast, but my appetite had failed to come back, so I curled up on the couch and started to cry. Sure, Dean gave me acknowledgement that my brother was fine, but I just couldn't believe it until I saw it with my own eyes. Yes, I forgave him, but I wasn't going to forget what happened, and it was going to take me a while before I could trust Dean again. I buried my head in the pillow and just kept crying. "Sammi?" I heard Sam call. "Sweetheart? Are you downstairs?" I didn't answer because I couldn't control my tears. I heard footsteps followed by a hand on my shoulder. "Baby, are you ok?" Sam asked. I took the pillow away from my face and attempted to look into his eyes. "I know you're still upset with Dean," he said. "I am too, but I'm sure your brother is fine. Would you like me to go in there and make sure?" Since I still couldn't speak, I nodded to let him know that would be the best thing he could do right now. A few short moments later I felt another hand on my shoulder. I looked up through tears expecting to see Sam again, but instead was face to face with my brother. "Thank God you're alright!" I exclaimed, still weepy, throwing my arms around him. "I heard it was all thanks to you," he smiled. "Did you really have to brush my teeth, dress me, AND lift me into the bed?" "You were so drunk you couldn't move," I said. "I never want to see you or anyone else like that ever again." "Trust me when I say I don't ever want to drink like that again," he assured me. "Maybe one or two every now and then, but that's it." "I'm going to hold you to that," I told him. "Speaking of, don't you think you're being a little too hard on Dean?" Declan asked. "Sure, he could have told me about his promise and I would have told him to take me somewhere else, but he wasn't lying when he said it was my idea to go out for a few drinks. Did we go a little overboard? Sure. But remember I haven't celebrated my birthday in years. I'm sorry we missed your awesome dinner, too." "In case he didn't tell you, I forgave him," I said. "I heard that part," Declan replied. "But you're still angry with him, I can tell. Please don't be mad at him. We were both equally responsible. I'm not asking you to forget this ever happened. I'm just asking you to give the guy a break. He was trying to help me have fun." "I guess I am being a little hard on him," I admitted. "It's because I love him, and sometimes he needs that tough love, you know?" "We all do," Declan said. "In this case, you should be treating me the same way. I'm just as responsible for what happened as he is." "Point taken," I told him. I gave him another hug and made my way into the bedroom where Sam and Dean were talking. "Can you give us a few moments?" I asked Sam, pointing from myself to Dean. "Sure, sweetie," he answered, giving me a kiss and walking toward the door. He turned around to face us right before he closed the door. "No sleeping with my wife, you understand?" He winked at us both before closing the door behind him. "Listen, princess," Dean started to say, but I stopped him. "I know what you're going to say, and you don't have to explain yourself again," I said. "You explained everything last night. Declan confirmed your story. He feels guilty for asking you to take him to a bar, especially knowing you broke a promise to do it. Besides, if I stay angry at you, I'll have to be just as angry with him and I can't do that. You were only doing what he asked you to do for his birthday. I'm sorry I was so hard on you. I just hate broken promises." "I'm sorry I broke my promise," he admitted. "You know I don't usually do that." "I know," I agreed. "That's why I'm in here now apologizing for overreacting." "You didn't overreact," he assured me. "You had every right to be mad, to show me some tough love." "True, but I should have just ended it when I forgave you last night and I didn't," I said. "And for that I am sorry." "No harm done," he smiled. "Now get over here and give me a hug." I couldn't say no to a hug from Dean, so I opened my arms up and wrapped them around his waste, putting my head against his chest. Then, in true Sammi fashion, I stood on my tiptoes and gave him a kiss on the cheek. "You two have been in there quite a while," we heard Sam say. "Did you kiss and make up yet or what?" Dean and I looked at each other and we both laughed. "What do you say we mess with your brother a little bit?" I suggested. "What are you suggesting?" Dean asked. I didn't say a word, just took his hand in mine and motioned for him to walk me out the door. "Who are you and what did you do with my sister-in-law?" he teased. "You realize there is a chance you will get him really pissed?" "It's a risk I'm willing to take," I said. We walked hand in hand out the door and joined Sam and Declan in the living room. "You didn't encounter a witch in the bedroom, did you?" Sam joked. I looked at Dean and smiled. "And you thought he'd get pissed." "I honestly thought he would," Dean said. "I trust my wife," Sam explained. "I know she wouldn't dare cheat, and especially not with my own brother. She doesn't believe in cheating." "That's right," I agreed. "I think it's a coward's way of letting someone know you don't love them anymore." "Moving on..." Declan jumped in. "Since Dean and I missed dinner last night, why don't we all go out for breakfast? It'll be my treat." "Nonsense," Sam said. "It was your birthday, so you are not paying. The rest of us will chip in and treat you." "Sounds like a plan to me," Dean agreed. "What about you, princess?" "I think a family meal is just what the doctor ordered after yesterday's craziness," I said. I called Dad and Marissa to let them know about our plans. They agreed to meet us and the four of us packed into the car and headed out to finally celebrate my brother's birthday.
