Maddy got up early from that night, hoping to get some extra exercise She had been getting up earlier and earlier each day, with something always on her mind. She carefully walked over to Jana, hoping not to wake anyone else.
Maddy placed her hand on Jana's shoulder, hoping it would be enough to wake her. Maddy smiled when Jana's eyes began to open.
"Ready for our morning run?" Maddy whispered, hoping not to wake up anyone else in thepack.
Jana, with tired eyes looked up into the sky.
"Its a bit too early." She replied qith grogginess in her tone.
Maddy averted her eyes, almost embarrassed, "Yeah but I couldn't sleep," she mumbled.
"Bad dreams?" Jana said, looking at Maddy
"No"
Jana studied Maddy's face, seeingwhat was really going on,"Its Rhydian, isn't it."
Maddy nodded and tried her best to blink back tears that were on the verge of falling. She missed Rhydian, more than ever. She thought that after four years out in the wild that she would grow used to it. She did although, just not the way she wanted it.
Jana sighed and got up, not wanting to see her friend in pain of the life and home she missed.
"Okay, we can run early today". She replied with a fake smile.
Maddy managed a weak smile back before they both headed to the woods south of camp.
Once they were far enough from the pack, they ran through the woods racing each other.
Even though running was suppose to distract her mind, Maddy couldn't focus. When she finally got over her broken heart, it came back to haunt her. She was having dreams about Stoneybridge. The thought of probably never seeing her home again....it scared her. Would she ever see her friends again? Would she be able to go back to her home? Would ever see Rhydian again?
She ran faster hoping to forget about her thought, but it didn't work. The memories were too strong. Her experienced with Rhydian overwhelmed her. She missed him so bad.
Soon she was crying and running at the same time. The tears streaming down her face as she lazily dodged bushes and boulders. They seemed to see pouring faster than she was running.
Then suddenly, the tears blinded her eyes, and she couldn't see anything but a blur. She tried to stop running, but she was going too fast. Maddy could feel the trees become denser around her, as if they were closing in. Then, Maddy tripped on a boulder, and her head slamming onto a tree that was right behind it with a CRACK.
Blackness was all she could see.****** (present day)
Rhydian woke up the next morning and scrambled out of bed. He threw on his school attire and rapidly combed his hair. He had stayed up a full amount of time at night thinking about what he was gping to dp later. He threw his comb into a draw and ran downstairs, almost tripping in the process.
"Whoah, hold up kiddo!" his foster dad Mr. Vaughn said placing his hand on Rhydian's shoulder. "Why are you in such a hurry?"
Rhydian just ignored him and grabbed a piece of toast from his kitchen counter and ran out the door without saying a word.
When Rhydian got to school after a quick run through the woods, the place was packed with students and teachers. Rhydian pushed himself past the crowd, trying not to hurt anyone, and into the dark room where Tom and Shannon were editing a final video that would be played at lunch.
Shannon looked up from her work when Rhydian opened the door lousy and smiled,"Hi Rhydian. So today's the big day, huh."
Rhydian ignored her, having something he really wanted to say. Well of course today was the lastday of high school and he wanted to make the most of it, but he had to tell them his plan, "I have some news for you guys."
Tom and Shann exchanged looks, confused. "What?" They said in unison.
Rhydian grinned," I think that today, after school, we should look for Maddy."
