Rhydian ran through the woods as hard as he could. He was sure Maddy was never going to get her memory back at this rate. This is all my fault, he thought.
He ran back to the river and peered down at it. Rhydian did wonder how it was so clean.
But that didn't get rid of his thought about Maddy. What if she never comes back to me? What if her Amnesia is permanent?
Rhydian kicked a stone into the river with a loud splash!
Then he heard something in the distants. It sounded as if someone was there. Probably just an animal. Then he smelled something. Not an animal. More like....humans.
Rhydian ran back as fast as he could, hoping the humans didn't hear him.
********************************************
Maddy sat down on a log a picked up a flat stone from the ground. She kept wondering if Rhydian was ok, and if he didn't put himself under too much pressure. Then Bryn sat down next to her on the log. ''You alright?'' he asked.
''I'm just worried about Rhydian. He seems to be having a tough time''
Bryn looked at her, ''Do you love him?''
Maddy jumped in shock of the question, ''What?''
''I said do you love him?''
Maddy stared, ''Bryn, I've only know him for a week.''
''No you haven't, you've known him for four years Maddy. I would understand if you love him.''
Maddy didn't know what to say, ''I don't know. I mean... I never actually knew why I befriended him so fast. I just thought it was because we used to be friends. But now I don't know.''
Bryn nodded, ''But if you do have feelings for him, you should tell him.'' and he walked away.
********************************
After ten minutes, Maddy saw Rhydian come back from the woods. He seemed nervous when he came back. Maddy walk over to him. ''Rhydian?'' she said
He let out a shakey breath, ''What?''
Maddy gripped his arm, ''I need to talk to you,'' and she pulled him inside her hut.
*********************************
Rhydian was nervous when Maddy pulled him inside the hut and locked the door, they stood face to face.
Maddy put her hand to her chest, as if she was checking her heartbeat.
Rhydian took a step closer, ''Are you ok?''
Maddy nodded, ''I'm just nervous,''
Rhydian stepped back again, ''About what?''
Maddy took a deep breath, she moved her hand from her heart into Rhydian's hand. ''Rhydian I, I know I don't remember you, and that I've only known you for a week but... I talked to Bryn, and he asked me about you. That's when I realized that...''
Rhydian raised his eyebrows, and Maddy looked at him right in the eyes. ''That I love you, Rhydian.''
**********************************
Rhydian's heart was pounding. Maddy finally told him she loved him. She stood their with nervous eyes and was holding his hand.
But something wasn't right, this wasn't the Maddy Rhydian knew. This wasn't his Maddy.
Maddy gripped his hand tighter. ''Do you feel the same?'' she asked him.
Rhydian was lost. He couldn't love this Maddy. She wasn't the Maddy he had memories with. That Maddy was gone forever.
Rhydian sighed, ''No, I don't''
Maddy started breathing faster, ''What?''
''I said, I don't love you Maddy'',
Maddy started hyperventallating and tears rolled down her face. She yanked her hand out of Rhydian's and ran out the door sobbing.
******************************************
Maddy ran to the east side of the woods running and sobbing at the same time. It was very early in the mourning. She ran harder trying to forget about Rhydian, but it didn't work.
Wait a second she thought why does this seem so familiar?
She was running super fast and her tears almost blurred her eyes. Then she saw herself running towards a redwood tree.
She stopped just in time before she hit it. Then a bunch of thoughts came to Maddy.
She saw herself with her parents when they tried to break out of the cellar. Then she saw her best friends Tom and Shannon. Many of her thoughts of them were at Bernie's and in the woods.
She saw many other thoughts, until finally, came her experiences with Rhydian. Her first transformation with him, running throught the hospital getting thier blood, spending time with Jana, him asking her out, thier first kiss...
Her memory had come back.
Then Maddy realized that the only reason Rhydian told her he didn't love her was because she was different . Not the Maddy he knew.
Then there was howling coming back from the pack. Maddy turned around and saw a light coming from the campsite. It looked like...
Fire
Maddy ran back as fast as she could.
*******************************
When Maddy came back, their huts and campsite was covered in fire. Maddy could feel her eyes turn yellow and her claws appear.
The pack was running around trying to save cubs. There were humans with blow torches putting the trees and ground on fire. Maddy looked around for Rhydian and saw him carrying Demetra's passed out body. He seemed to be struggling. Maddy ran up to Rhydian and helped him out of the fire.
Rhydian set down Demetra and hugged Maddy. ''I'm sorry I hurt you. It's just-''
''I know,'' Maddy said, ''You miss the old Maddy. But what if I told you she's back''
Rhydian pulled away, ''You mean-''
Maddy smiled, ''I remember everything,''
Rhydian smiled too. He lifted her to her feet and leaned forward.
But they were interuppted by some sort of laso that grapped Maddy's waist and started pulling her into the woods.
''Maddy!'' Rhydian cried and he ran forward and gripped her hand.
''Rhydian please don't let go!'' Maddy yelled.
''Never again!'' he said.
He pulled her forward but the rope was stronger than he was.
Then something shot into his neck. A tranquilizer.
Rhydian pulled it out and he started to get dizzy. He tried to stay awake but the medicine was too strong. He passed out on the ground.
''RHYDIAN!'' Maddy screamed and she was dragged into the woods.
