Chapter 17

Chapter seventeen: Taken

Maddy looked at Rhydian as she was pulled into the woods. The rope around her waist was starting to tighten, making it harder to breathe.

When the rope finally stopped pulling Maddy flipped over on her back and saw Dr. Whitewood holding a tranquilizer gun. ''Hello again Maddy.'' she crooned.

Maddy growled at Dr. Whitewood. ''Tsk tsk tsk,'' Dr. Whitewood said, ''that's not very nice,'' and shot a tranquilizer into Maddy's arm. Maddy yelped and pulled it out.

''You do realize Dr.Whitewood,'' Maddy managed, ''that you probably killed a dozen people today!''

Dr. Whitewood laughed, ''No Maddy. Not people, monsters'' Then Maddy blacked out.

Dr. Whitwood had her assistant carry Maddy into their truck. Dr. Whitwood watched thier campsite burn and Maddy's pack run all over.

''Dr. Whitewood,'' one of the assistants said, ''are we going to take more?''

Dr. Whitewood shook her head. ''The on we caught is the only one we need.''

Jana ran around in the campsite looking for more people to save. She looked to her left and saw Rhydian passed out on the ground with the fire starting to surround him.

Jana ran to him and pulled his body away from the fire and into the woods.

She set him down were the pack had decided to stay until mourning and ran to Maddy's parents.       ''I can't find Maddy anywhere,'' she told them. ''i think the humans took her,''

Rhydian started to stirr, then his eyes popped opened. ''Rhydian,'' Jana said , ''are you ok?''

Rhydian sat up, ''Where's Maddy?'' Nobody said anything, ''She has her memory back!''

Jana and Maddy's parents looked at him. ''Then that means she remembers Whitewood!'' Mr. Smith said.

Rhydian got up and ran back to the campsite. ''Rhydian!'' Jana yelled and ran after him.

Jana grabbed him and pulled him back. ''Jana ! What are you doing?! I have to save Maddy!''

''I know Rhydian! But's too dangerous! The humans set the whole woods on fire so we'll have to wait until it dies down.''

Rhydian looked at her like he wanted to protest. He sighed, ''You're right Jana.''

Jana nodded and walked him back to the pack.

When they got back, the pack healers were making sure everyone was getting oxygen and enough medicine.

''Ok,'' Jana said to the pack, ''Since our huts and campsite were burned down, we have no shelter or food, so we'll have to move to a different forest.'' Then she inhaled, ''And the humans have taken Maddy to experiment on her. And she has her memory back,''

The pack looked at Jana with fear. ''Then the whole world will know about wolfbloods!'' someone from the pack cried.

''Not if we rescue Maddy in time''' Jana said, ''we'll need to form a team. Rhydian has already volunteered.''

Rhydian shook his head, ''No Jana. It's my fault Dr. Whitewood showed up and I have to fix it,''

Everyone stared at him. ''Rhydian,'' Ceri said, ''It's too dangerous for you.''

''No mum, I can do this on my own. I promise. Nothing is going to stop me so don't even try!'' and he ran off.

Maddy woke up in some sort of dark room. She coughed from lack of oxygen from the fire. She sat up and realized she wasn't at the forest.

Rhydian she thought.

Maddy looked to her left and saw a barred door. She grabbed at the bars but the stung her hands. She yelped back and looked at her hands. They were scorched.

She stood up and looked at the bars. They were made of silver.

Great she thought

She began thinking of Rhydian. Seeing him passed out on the forest floor and him almost kissing her until-

Whitewood.

Maddy looked around and saw she was in a cell. There was a camera in the top corner of the ceiling and she growled at it.

Rhydian ran as fast as he could to Stoney Bridge without stopping. It took him tweleve hours to get there but he finally made it.

He entered the village and telephone pole. He inserted a few coins and dialed Tom's number.

Tom picked up after the second ring. ''Hello?''

''Tom! It's Rhydian! Dr. Whitewood captured Maddy and is going to experiment on her any minute now!''

''Rhydian? Are you sure?''

''Yes! I was there! I saw it happen! I'll meet you and Shannon at the lab.'' Rhydian hung up and ran towards the lab.

Dr. Whitewood looked at the security camera and say Maddy growling at the  camera. ''Why won't she transform!'' she said to her self.

Then she got an idea. she pressed a button that was labeled wolfsbane gas. Maddy's cell got covered in the gas, and Maddy went crazy.

''Now, that's what I'm talking about''
