Just friends

When Rhydian finished their story, Maddy seem to be deep in thought.

Rhydian left out the part where he asked her out and kissed her. He felt like that his wasn't the Maddy he loved. Jana was right, it was like talking to a stranger wearing Maddy's face.

Maddy kept rubbing her head every once in a while.

"Are you OK?" Rhydian asked

"I'm just trying to remember, but nothing sounds familiar,"

Rhydian sighed and stood up and held out his hand, "I want to show you something,"

Maddy looked at his hand and grabbed it.

Once Rhydian helped her up, he didn't let go. Instead, he ran holding her hand.

They ran hard through the woods still holding each other. They came to a stop at the edge of a hill. Rhydian bent down and picked up a ladybug from the ground and held it in front of Maddy. "I believe I owe you this," He said.

Maddy laughed and lightly pushed him down the hill. When Rhydian stopped rolling at the bottom, he laughed with her.

*****************

Rhydian relaxed at the bottom of the hill and stared at the sunset. He was glad that Maddy didn't hate him anymore, but something didn't seem right.

Then he heard Maddy run down the hill and appeared above him. "Get up slow poke!" she teased. Rhydian sat up, "You think i'm slow?"

Maddy started skipping away, "If it takes you that long to recover!" She yelled in the distant. Rhydian got up and ran after her.

They ran chasing each other through the summer trees. When Rhydian finally caught up to her, he grabbed her and picked her up onto his shoulder. Maddy screamed playfully.

After a while, they lay down on the grass catching their breath. Maddy took a deep breath, "So what did you want to show me?"

Unwillingly, Rhydian got up, "Follow me,"

************************

He and Maddy walked side by side, back towards the hill. Rhydian still couldn't get the thought of the old Maddy out of his head.

When they walked back up the hill, Rhydian lead Maddy to a very tall tree and he began to climb it and she followed. They sat at the very top.

"Look,'' Rhydian said.

He watched Maddy look at the horizon. "This is amazing, I can see the whole forest and, the pack!"

Rhydian smiled but turned away. Maddy looked at him, "Is something wrong?"

Rhydian sighed, "We should head back."

********************************

Jana and her beta wolves came back from hunting. The whole pack was scattered in different groups of families.

Then Rhydian and Maddy came back rushing through the forest. Jana didn't say anything because she knew they needed as much time as possible together.

Rhydian and Maddy separated to join their families for dinner.

After everyone was done, people started to go inside their huts to sleep. Jana walked to Rhydian, "Does she remember anything now?"

Rhydian shook his head with disapointment.

Jana sighed, "We have to keep trying, or otherwise we won't get anywhere."

Rhydian nodded, "I'll keep trying."

And he went inside his family's hut.
