Chapter 14

Chapter fourteen: Spending time together

Maddy lay inside her hut with her parents.They were out cold but Maddy couldn't stop wondering how she and Rhydian became friends so quickly.

Maybe its because we met before, like he said she thought

She turned over on her side and fell asleep

In her dream. she was with Rhydian running through the woods together. When they stopped runing, Rhydian told her that he was playing a joke on her and that they have never actually met before.

Then Mr. Smith shook Maddy out of her dream, "Maddy, wake up! Breakfast time."

Maddy got up, fixed her bed head, and followed her parents outside.

A few families were already preparing the food that Bryn hunted, while Demetra had to baby sit the cubs.

Maddy walked over to Jana who was talking to Rhydian. When she got closer, she realized they were arguing.

"I'm trying Jana!" Rhydian said, "You can't just expect her memory to come back by telling her the past!"

"Well you better start finding another way before you have to leave for college!"

"Why me?! Why can't you do it?!"

"Because I'm busy dealing with Bryn and Demetra!" and Jana stomped away.

Maddy watched her go and looked at Rhydian.

"Don't ask Maddy," he said

"I wasn't going to," she said

Rhydian walked Maddy back to the pack, "So, Maddy. I was wondering if you would like to come to the river with me later?"

"River?"

Rhydian bit his lip, "Yeah, I found it last night when everyone was asleep."

Maddy nodded suspiciously," OK, when do you want to leave?"

"How 'bout now?"

"Now?"

Rhydian shrugged, "Why not? While we're alone." he said and ran into the woods.

While we're alone

Maddy bit her lip and followed Rhydian.

They ran towards the north side of the forest avoiding the mossy green trees. The air was misty so the cool breeze felt good against Maddy's face. They ran for what seemed like hours until Rhydian came to an abrupt stop and she crashed into him. She fell on her back and pain went up her spine.

Rhydian helped her up, ''You ok?''

Maddy rubbed her spine, ''Next time a little warning won't kill ya,''

Rhydian turned around, ''Here's the river,''

Maddy looked at the clear water. It seemed very clean and you could even see the fish swimming around. ''How is it so clean?''

''Don't know,'' Rhydian replied.

Maddy saw Rydian staring at her out of the corner of her eye. ''Rhydian,'' she said, ''I think there's something your not telling me,''

He looked at her particially scared and ran back. ''Rhydian!'' Maddy yelled and followed him.

He seemed to be pretty keen to get away from her. But Maddy had to know what he was hiding. When she was close enough, she tackled him hard and pinned him to the ground.

Rhydian tried to push her off, but she forced all her strength to keep him down. He finally gave up and calmed down. Maddy leaned forward and whispered into his ear, ''Rhydian, if there is something you need to tell me, then say it.''

Rhydian jerked and accidentally head butted her hard in the nose. Maddy was thrown back and she gripped her nose, and felt blood between her fingers.

Rhydian looked at her in horror. ''I...I'm...I'm sorry.''

Maddy sat up and Rhydian ran to her side. ''Move your hand,'' he said

Maddy unwillingly moved her fingers and Rhydian examed her nose. He let out a breath of relief, ''Thank God it's not broken. But we should get you to the pack healers.''

He helped Maddy up and walked back to the pack without saying another word.

When Maddy was put in the healers care, Rhydian walked to an empty spot in thier campsite.

The pack had decided to move back to their old campsite, which was a huge clearing in the forest. The grass was a yellowish green color, and it reminded Rhydian of the grass at school.

Then Jana walked over to him. ''Did you find another way?''

Rhydian took a deep breath, ''If you mean me accidentally head butting her in the nose? Then no''

Jana pursed her lips, ''There has to be some way to get her memory back.'' She arched her eyebrows, ''So... Why did you head butt her?''

Rhydian sighed, ''I ran away when she asked me if I was not telling her something, and she tackled me. Then she asked me what it was in my ear, and I kind of got nervous when she asked that.''

Jana looked at him, ''So you head butted her?''

''I didn't mean to!''

Jana got up, ''Well I better go, I have to tell your brother its time for him to start hunting, and for Demetra to baby sit the cubs again.''

Rhydian watched her go and walked over to Maddy's parents, ''I didn't mean to hurt Maddy, I'm sorry,''

Mrs. Smith ruffled his hair, ''It's fine Rhydian, she told us it was an accident,''

Rhydian looked at Maddy who was with an elder who was rubbling a greenish liquid on her nostrils.

Rhydian nodded at Maddy's parents and walked over to his hut.

He saw his backpack in the corner. He totally forgot he brought it with him. He first looked at his mobile and saw about a million worried text messages from Tom and Shannon. Rhydian didn't reply but instead deleted the messages.

He then picked up his laptop and turned it on. He remembered he couldn't get wi-fi out in the wild, so he left the hut and towards the west side of the woods.

He ran until he spotted the end of the woods and saw a town. He ran into the nearest cafe and sat down and opened his laptop. A waitress came over and offered him a drink. Rhydian fished around in his pockets and paid for the drink.

He logged onto the internet and typed 'Amnesia'.

A bunch of stuffed popped up. But what caught his eye was:
