"Just go!"
"Wake up. Please!"
"NO! Please Don't hurt me!"
"You're a monster!"
"Street Rats!"
"This is where you belong, Prescott!"
"She's in a coma."
I felt the heat run through my veins as i recalled every incident since that night. It has been 12 years but the nightmares feel as if it all happened yesterday. I sat on the corner of the bed after I injected my medication.
What did she mean when she said "They will come after you."
They will come after you. Trust no one.
The words of my mother ran through my head. I still couldn't figure it out.
I didn't want this. I never asked for it. Any of it. My thoughts redirected to the argument my parents were having that same night.
12 YEARS AGOI rubbed my eyes again and again as i descended the stairs. I couldn't sleep. I was heading to the kitchen when I heard my parents fighting. I heard a rough voice which I assumed was my father's. I couldn't understand what they were saying.
Out of curiosity, I crept slowly towards the laboratory we had at home, hoping i wouldn't get caught. When I got close I could finally hear what they were saying but I had missed most of the conversation.
"We need to tell him. Sooner or later he is going to find out, David. Its better if we tell him now." my mum explained to my father.
"Gabriella, he won't understand any of it. It will be too much for him." my father replied. Too much for who?
"But it will give him time to understand. To accept it." There was a long pause. "We are telling him tomorrow morning." my mom came out and saw me leaning on the door.
I was caught.
She looked back into the lab and looked back at me.
Oh no. She is gonna kill me.
"Why are you up so late?" she asked politely. No anger? What's happening?
"I couldn't sleep." i answered. She curved a little sad smile.
"Let's get you to bed." I walked towards my room and tucked myself into bed. Mom just stood there looking at me. She was about to leave but then she stopped and looked back at me. She came towards me and sat on the edge of my bed.
"Alex. I do not know if this will ever make sense to you right now but..." she sighed "You'll come across cruel people, someday. And Life will be cruel itself. Everything will just seem so dull. You will lose yourself trying to fight these demons that try to steal your light. You'll get tired. You'll fall. But don't succumb to the darkness. It's very tempting. It's looks easy. So Alex, promise me you will stand up after every fall and fight your demons. Promise me you won't let the pain lead you to the darkness."
