•••EVANGELINE•••

"Setting up tents is a pain. How am I supposed to know which is which?" Samantha sighed, dropping the hammer on the ground.

"It's easy when you do it often." I said as I came out of the perfectly made tent.

Survival skills, I patted myself.

"Let me go and help the grumpy captain and try to make conversation." I said, leaving to help Aaron with his tent but was disappointed when I saw it was already set, perfectly.

That was real quick.

Silence.

Aaron turned to leave when I called out his name. "Hey!"

"Make it fast."

Okay so Aaron's behaviour had me thinking lately. That maybe if we were just acquaintances, he would keep on treating me like garbage. So my plan was to stay on the better side of him.

"I know we started on the wrong foot and I know my existence bothers you but please, let's just start over." I put my hand forward. "Hi. I'm Evangeline. The sub-captain of your squad. Nice you meet you.", I finished with a salute with my left hand.

He stared at me for a moment, slightly confused.

"Aaron Grey. Pleased to have you as the sub-captain." he said as we shaked hands. "And you salute with your right hand."

"See? It wasn't that hard." I said triumphantly with a smile.

"Go and supervise the other tents." he commanded.

Aye aye captain!

"Hey guys, wake up!" a soft voice shook me  slowly.

"No" I mumbled silently. "Everybody is asleep now. It's late."

"Evangeline, We were supposed to explore the forest remember?"

"We can't do that. I promised Aaron not to do anything reckless. And We're treking tomorrow."

"But I'm telling you. There is something there. I can feel it. "

"Sasha, your instincts are hardly correct."

"Its Samantha. Not Sasha." she paused. "I'll just go by myself"

"Okay" I rolled my body to the other side. Realisation struck me like a lightning. My eyes shot open,"Wait! Samantha. No."

Sasha awaked at my sudden movement. "What's going on?" she yawned.

"Sam is going into the forest!! The forest, Sasha! She's gonna get lost or killed by a bear or slip into a river or---" Sasha interuppted me, rushing out of the tent.

"Shhh. You don't wanna wake anyone now, do you?" I shook my head in agreement. "Let's just bring her back. No biggie."
As I got out of the tent, I saw Jason run after a feminine figure whom I assumed was Sam.

We caught up with Jason as we entered the dark woods. The cold wind blew against our exposed skin. We literally left the tent in our nighties. How embarrassing!

"It's so cold", I complained, my eyes scanning Sasha. She was wrapped under the small, thin blanket like a burrito.

I should've brought the blanket too.

The forest - a place they restricted us from entering alone. Aaron was gonna be furious when he found out. That mere thought made me gulp as a cold sweat trickled down my temples.
