Jade's migraine woke her up. It was a horrible pounding. She wanted to go back to sleep but it wouldn't let her. She needed pain killers . . . strong ones. Her room was only illuminated by a dim light. She recognized it as the light at her little desk. She let her eyes wonder to over the desk. She was surprised that her books were stacked neatly, no trace of the mess she'd left.
"What . . ." She grumbled trying to move.
She suddenly became aware of the humming. Sweet humming of the Disney tune; When You Wish Upon a Star. Her face was resting in someone's lap. And a hand was playing soothingly in her hair.
Jade blushed. "Leigh-Anne what are you doing here?" she asked softly.
"You needed me so I came." Leigh-Anne said in a caring voice. "Jes would have come too but she's really tired for some reason. She's fast asleep."
Jade sat up and looked to her stack of books.
"You need sleep Jadey." Leigh said noticing where Jade was looking.
"I know I need sleep Leigh . . . I just don't have time for it." Jade argued. She winced as her migraine got worse.
"You've got a headache don't you?" Leigh-Anne asked softly. "Jadey . . . you know you get migraines when you're worked up. You know you're prone to panic and anxiety attacks. Please you can't continue to do this to yourself."
Jade winced again. "It's just a little longer till exams then I can rest up on Christmas break. I can do it. I'm Jade Thirlwall. I can do any and everything." She argued weakly.
Leigh-Anne cupped Jade's cheek and a shiver went down the younger girls spine. "Jade you may be Jade Thirlwall but you're still human. Human beings need rest babe."
Jade found herself nodding, suddenly powerless to argue with Leigh-Anne. "I . . . my head hurts too much to sleep." She said in a tiny pained voice.
Leigh-Anne got off the bed. "I'll get you some medicine. Don't move a muscle. Your head better be on that pillow when I get back." She left the room leaving Jade with her painful, miserable thoughts.
Jade was trying to figure out how to fix her schedule again if she was going to use hours of precious time for sleep. She shut her eyes as the pounding in her head made a wave of pain induced nausea sweep over her. She wanted to turn off the dim light that was shining far too brightly but she couldn't seem to get herself to move in a combination of being in too much pain and wanting to obey Leigh-Anne.
"Okay Jadey. Here you go." Leigh-Anne's soft voice called as the curly haired girl appeared next to Jade again. She helped Jade to sit up and handed her a cup of water and two pills. "This should help. I told Mum that you weren't feeling well."
Jade nodded as she put the pills in her mouth at the same time and gulped down water, desperate for relief from the pain she found crippling.
"Careful you choke Jade."
When Jade was done she handed Leigh-Anne the cup and put her head on her pillow and stared at the ceiling. How was she supposed to sleep if she had so much work to do? Her mind which was slowly being relieved from immense pain was starting to be filled with equations that she was yet to solve. There was no way she'd get to sleep. She couldn't just lie here like this. This was crazy there were things to do. She sat up quickly.
Leigh raised an eyebrow at her. "What do you think you're doing?"
"No time for sleep Leigh-Anne. I've got to get these things done." Jade rattled off getting out of bed. "Thanks for getting me medicine but you can go now . . . go check on Jesy or something." She sat at her desk.
