Chapter 53

Leigh-Anne and Jesy were getting closer to Vanessa even though Jade had said the need for her was long gone.  They both seemed to take a liking to her.

They were at her house and Leigh-Anne was braiding her hair.

"But doesn't it hurt?" Vanessa was asking about the sit ups the two girls had to do at every cheerleading practice.

"It hurts like a bitch but I'm actually seeing the results." Jesy said raising her shirt. "I mean have you ever seen a tummy this sexy?" She poked at her perfectly flat and slightly toned belly.

"It does look amazing but it was fine before." Leigh-Anne commented.

"I don't think Blaire likes you guys." Vanessa said timidly.

"What makes you say that?" Leigh asked innocently.

"Well . . ." Vanessa thought of the many twitter posts that Blaire made about how much she hated them as well as the times she'd said it at school. Vanessa shrugged. "I just think so."

"I told you she was acting funny Leigh.  Far too Britney like for my taste.  I mean they could be twins.  If I saw them standing side by side I'd be confused." Jesy said with narrowed eyes.

"I'm sure she loves us deep inside." Leigh said brightly. "Tada Nessie!  I'm done with your hair."

"Thanks Leigh." Vanessa said.

"So how have things been around here?" Jesy asked casually. "Family still crazy?"

Vanessa sighed and nodded. "My dad came home two days ago but he was gone again when I woke up this morning . . . Vlad is still Vlad . . . and for some reason my Mom is really angry.  Like she's so mad and I have no idea why.  When I asked her she told me to get lost and called me by a wrong name; Victoria." She shook her head. "I don't know what to do."

Leigh-Anne and Jesy exchanged a look.  They felt kind of bad.  Obviously her mother was acting up because her plans of becoming an instant billionaire were thwarted.  It felt like they were causing Vanessa's pain.

"We're really sorry Nessie." Leigh said sadly.  "I'm sure everything will turn out fine.  Just keep positive and don't forget to smile." Leigh demonstrated the smile.

Vanessa sighed. "You're so perfect."

Jesy grinned. "Yeah she is."

"You are too Jesy.  It's why everyone likes you.  I always wished I was as pretty as you guys." Vanessa pouted.

"But you are pretty." Leigh argued.

"Definitely." Jesy agreed.

"Not like you guys." She replied looking down.

"Everyone has their own way of looking beautiful. You can't expect to look like us." Leigh-Anne said sweetly.

"It's true." Jesy agreed.

Vanessa looked down in her lap not convinced.  No one had ever told her she was beautiful before.  Kids at school avoided her because she was Vlad's sister.  There were rumors going around that she was a witch.  As if that actually made sense.

Leigh-Anne lifted Vanessa's chin gently.  She gave her one of her brightest Leigh-Anne smiles.

"Come on lets see you smile." Jesy said trying to coax her.

Vanessa allowed a faint smile to play on her lips.

"Bigger than that Nessa." Jesy cooed.

Vanessa smiled as brightly as she could.
