After eating lunch and Addie contemplating whether to throw away anything Frozen she ever owned, the five were back on the road.
They had gone back to listening to Twenty One Pilots, though El had taken it upon himself to make a playlist combining the duo along with Panic! at the Disco and, believe it or not, Troye Sivan.
Though they sang for a while, about thirty minutes everyone had quieted down and simply listened. Not long after that, Sophie, Ate, and Lilia ended up falling asleep.
Addie was concentrated on her driving, tuning out practically everything. However, she was pulled out of her daze as she heard the music turned down by El.
"Hey." She heard him say, though his voice was much softer than she was used to. "Are you alright? You're gripping onto the wheel pretty tightly."
Addie glanced at her hands, just now realizing how white her knuckles had turned. "Yeah, I'm fine." She nodded lightly before looking ahead.
"Addie, please, you're obviously not fine if you're gripping the wheel that tight." El shook his head. "We've been friends since we were little. You're my 'mom'. Please. What's wrong?"
Addie's hold tightened once more as she let out a small breathe. "I'm scared." She breathed out.
"Scared? What do you have to be scared about?"
"What if we don't stop it?" Addie breathed out. "What if we can't find the vaccine if we can't stop it? What if we lose someone? I can't lose you." At this point, she was in tears, and she had to pull over due to tears clouding her vision. "You're my best friend, El, I can't lose you."
"You won't." El told her before leaning over and tightly hugged her, her face pressing against his shoulder as she started to openly cry, tears rapidly streaming down her face. "You won't lose me because, even if we can't stop it, we'll find the vaccine."
A muffled 'and what if we don't' was choked out.
"If we don't we'll make it ourselves. We're going to be okay. And I know that because I swear it to you. You know I would never lie to you." El quietly told her as he stroked her head, pressing her hair down as he did. At this point, he too was starting to tear up. "You know I love you. You're one of my best friends. I'm going to be by your side until we both die. Because we're dying together."
A sniffle was what he got in response.
El pulled away, taking her head into his hands and kissing her forehead.
"Come on. We're switching spots. You're getting some sleep."
And the two did just that.
After a minute into driving, he heard gentle snoring coming from beside him. And sure enough, Addie had fallen asleep with her head against the window.
"We'll be okay."
A/N: So I wanted this chapter to be like complete fluff, but this was mostly angst. Oops.
