The Doctor's Report

Early the next morning Kade woke up, and called Caleb:

Hey Caleb, I know that it's kinda early , I just need to ask for a favor

Hey , okay what's going?

Can you go to my house, and pack me a gym bag full of clothes , and um-

Bro , I got you covered. I'll head to your house in a few minutes, and after I get everything packed I'll be on my way up there.

Thanks bro, I guess I'll see you when you get here

Okay , man see you then , bye

Kade sitting next to Chay the whole time , while he waited on Caleb. There was a knock at the door.

"Come in", Kade said. It was Lawrence , "Hey , good morning Kade. How are you this morning?"

"Better , thanks"

"That's great, I just came to tell you that that Dr. Smith will be making her rounds , and will be in here shortly"

"Okay , that sounds great"

"Alright, do you need anything?"

"Can I have a sprite?"

"Oh of course, I'll be right back", as Lawrence walked out, Brianna and Antonio walked in , with a huge bundle of balloons and a card.

"Hey, how are you guys doing?", Kade asked.

"I'm doing better now that I'm here with her", Brianna replied. Kade could tell that she was holding back her tears. Antonio walked over to Chay's bed , and kissed her on the cheek , and said, "I'm so sorry I didn't tell you , I love you Chay"

"Sweetie , I'm not sure if she can hear-", Brianna started.

"Oh no, she can hear just fine", Kade confirmed.

"That's great", Brianna said, "so have you had any breakfast? I see that you haven't changed your clothes from last night"

"No , I didn't go anywhere last night. I came straight here with Chay"

"Oh okay, do you want to go get something while we sit in here", Kade knew Brianna meant well , but he just didn't feel comfortable leaving her.

"I'm not hungry, and Caleb is bringing me clothes, so I think I'm good", Kade said , even though he was starving.

"Okay, well do you care if we stay or?"

"Oh yeah , you can as long as you want"

Kade was in no mood to argue with Brianna , he wasn't even trying to. Lawrence walked in with his sprite.

"Here you go, sorry you had to wait, the Doctor should be in here any minute"

"It's okay, that's great thanks"

As Lawrence walked out , Kade received a text from Caleb:

Hey bro , I'm here. What's her room number?

6625, on the 6th floor

Okay, I'm on my way up

Before Kade knew it there was a knock at the door, it must be the doctor , he thought.

He opened the door, and sure enough it was him.

"Good morning , Kade is it?"

"Good morning , yes that's me"

"Great, now I have all of the results from her tests we took last night. We took many tests as you know. The results of the full body X-ray : 4 broken ribs, her left wrist is broken, her left foot has a major fracture. The next test we took was the MRI, it's taken when spinal cord and brain damage is suspected. She has minor spinal cord damage , which is amazing because there was such an impact. Unfortunately , she has brain damage , and it may cause short or long term memory loss , we're not for sure because she hasn't woken up for the coma"

Everytime the doctor spoke the shorter Kade's breaths were. He glanced over at Brianna and Antonio, they were both in shock. Finally Brianna just started crying like a baby, Antonio walked her out.

"I'm sorry , sir , that's her- I mean our mother, and she's taking it pretty bad", Kade said.

"Oh , I completely understand, I hate this part of my job. So you're her brother?"

"Yes , sir I am"

"Okay , well did you want me to continue?", Kade just shook his head yes.

"Okay , so the next test we took was an ultrasound , and it's taken to check connective tissue, internal organs, bones, blood vessels , and eyes. Her results are critical, she has kidney and lung damage , and everything else is okay. The last test we took was an Endoscopy, and that test is to check the body's natural openings and associated with tests that done to check her colon or stomach. The final results is that her stomach , as you can see", the Doctor said as he lifted Chay's hospital gown to her stomach, "she has a major bruise on her abdominal area , and that basically says that her stomach is damaged"

Kade just sat there , he didn't know what to feel , he knew that the person who did this had to pay.
