We arrived in Pennsylvania around three in the afternoon. Dean said it would still be about an hour before we arrived at our destination. We were going to a place called Moongrove. I had never heard of it before, but Sam and Dean said humans weren't supposed to know about it. So basically I was going to be the only human in the entire town and no one could know except for the people I was staying with otherwise I'd be hunted down and killed. No pressure.
In a really weird way, I was kind of exciting. Terrified, but excited. Until now, I had never really known who my parents were, or that monsters in storybooks even existed. I certainly didn't know who my uncles really were. I knew that they were a little odd, always keeping to themselves and barely ever showing up for holidays or special occasions. But, even though I didn't see them as much, I still had a very strong bond with both of them. Dean and I did butt heads a lot though, but I admired his leadership and stamina.
Dean's bitterness was developed through his childhood. Being the oldest, he had to take care of his younger brother and sister. His mother died when he was 4 years old when Sam and my mom were only babies. Knowing about the truth now, I couldn't help but wonder what really happened to my grandmother. Was she really in a car accident like they had told me? Or was she a victim of something paranormal? What about my grandfather? Was he the one with the bright idea to raise my mother and her brothers as monster hunters? I was honestly too afraid to ask. If it was something serious and dark, I didn't want to make the memory resurface in their minds. Especially if Dean witnessed something terrible.
After about 45 minutes of driving through small towns and past sceneries of mountains, we came to an iron gate that seemed to never end on either side. The weird thing was, there was barely anything around it. No houses, no people, not even trees. All you could see were miles and miles of grass and crops. The gate was closed, but I could see that it led to a gravel road surround by trees, it almost looked like a tunnel.
Once we reached the iron gate, Dean stopped the car and got out with Sam following his lead. I wasn't sure whether to get out or stay inside, but I got out anyway. All of the sudden, two tall and lanky men in black suits appeared in front of the gate, slightly making me jump. Sam and Dean didn't seem fazed at all, I guess they were used to that kind of thing.
"Do you think it wise," one of the men said," to show up here like this? We don't necessarily allow hunters in this neck of the woods. I'm sure you understand."
Dean smirked," Trust me, if this were my decision, I'd gank every last one of you."
"Dean," Sam reasoned, he turned towards the men," Rebecca knows we're coming. We've been invited by her."
"Is that so?" The other man asked slyly. He turned his attention from my uncles to me. "Oh, is this your niece? Beautiful. Tell me darling, do you fear me?"
"Don't speak to her." Dean warned.
He blinked his eyes and they immediately turned black. He smiled at my shock. In the blink of an eye, he vanished.
"Well?" His voice asked my behind me. I nearly jumped five feet into the air. I turned around and sure enough, he was standing behind me.
"What are you?" I asked in a whisper.
The man laughed," My name is Laurence, and that's Bryant. I take it we're the first demons you've encountered?"
"Demons?" I asked in disbelief, taking a step back.
Laurence chuckled," I take that as a yes."
"It's okay, Annabeth." Sam said, putting himself halfway in front of me. "He can't hurt you."
