Chapter 10
The day went by fast. It consisted of Anastasia getting me ready for school the next day. It scared me. It seemed that the school day had come up so fast. She got me books, notebooks, folders, pencils, everything I needed. I wasn't even surprised when she supplied me with a wooden stake, a silver knife, and earmuffs for protection.
"What are the earmuffs for?" I had asked her, to which she had rolled her eyes.
"Banshees think they can scream out their problems whenever they want. It's unbelievably annoying."
Anastasia had also stepped out for a while and came back with a whole new wardrobe for me. It was filled with extravagant dresses and flowy tops and skirts. It also consisted of skinny jeans and low cut tops as well. I raised my eyebrows.
"You heard Harry say it," Anastasia said with a shrug," Sirens are seductive. Don't be afraid to be inappropriate or over-confident. It's basically expected from a Siren."
"I think this," She selected a sparkly and long dress from the pile of outfits," would be the perfect outfit for tomorrow."
"You're joking."
She laughed," You'll look beautiful. I'll help you with your makeup tomorrow morning."

Before I knew it, it was morning. I was dressed in my black, sparkly dress, my hair was perfectly curled and my nails were painted perfectly purple. Anastasia went a little bit extravagant on my makeup with a mixture of purple and black, teaching me little tips along the way. The look was finished off with a clear lip gloss that she had made special for me. She designed it to stay on my lips until I wiped it off, rather than to keep reapplying it all day.
My usual wardrobe had consisted of mostly graphic tees, converse, and ripped jeans. So this whole thing was totally foreign to me. The most makeup I had ever worn was mascara and maybe lip gloss every once in a while. My eyelashes were so long that my friends would always tell me that I didn't even need mascara. Anastasia ended up saying the same thing, so she just put it on lightly.
I was now sitting at the counter with Anastasia and Jo while Rebecca was making breakfast. I was shaking so hard, even my teeth were chattering. Anastasia kept trying to comfort me but it didn't help.
I could see Jo smirking in the corner of my eye. Why did she hate me so much?
"They're going to eat her alive." She mumbled. "Literally."
"Jo, that's enough." Rebecca spat, slamming down a pan. Jo rolled her eyes but decided to shut up.
It was strange to see Rebecca on edge. She was always so cheery. It seemed like she was on edge because of my first day today. I thought it was sweet. She was like a legit mother figure here. Of course, no one could replace my mom. But it sure felt nice to have someone with such a kind heart looking after me. Rebecca and Anastasia were both like my guardian angels or something.
The rest of the morning was silent in the house. Rebecca prepared eggs cooked in Portobello mushrooms with a side of ham. Her meals were always so extravagant. I felt bad for all the work she had to go through: tending to the garden, cooking almost every meal, doing her daily runs through town, and just taking care of the house in general. I had a conversation with Anastasia once.
"She loves everything about it." She had said, describing all the work Rebecca would go through. "Jo and I help her of course, but Rebecca wouldn't allow me to help with the chores until you got settled in enough. She told me that you come first."
That made me feel a tad sorry for Jo, seeing as she had to pick up the slack for Anastasia's abandoned chores. But, given her personality, it wasn't hard to ignore Jo and her feelings.
