Chapter 14

The next few weeks went by like a blur. Anastasia was helpful, Jo was terrible, and school started getting harder and harder even though I was acing all of my classes but one. I became closer to Niall and Liam. It came to the point where they would come over every day after school to get writing help from me. Then it usually ended with procrastinated studying in the library and Anastasia avoiding Niall as much as possible. I felt pretty bad about that, but Niall was such a good friend. At least from what I could tell. Anyway, Anastasia didn’t act like she was upset with me. Honestly, she just seemed to be glad that I was actually making friends.

Harry and Jo were getting on my nerves and I could finally see what Anastasia constantly had to deal with. Dylan was great, it wasn’t hard to tell that he had a crush on me. But, to be honest, I didn’t think that I would be ready for a relationship. Especially with a supernatural creature in a supernatural world.  How crazy would that be?

Niall, Liam, and I were all enjoying a slightly gloomy day as we did our homework on the porch of my new home. I threw my pencil to the side in frustration.

“Potions is kicking my ass.” I groaned, resting my head against my book of potions.

“Journalism is kicking mine.” Niall interjected, tossing my pencil back to me.

“I said I could help you.” I mumbled.

“And I said no thank you.”

“If you have noticed,” Liam interrupted,” Niall doesn’t like to accept help from anyone. Hey, why don’t you ask Harry for help with potions, Beth? He’s rather good at it.”

“Liam, you’re an idiot.” Niall snorted.

“Oh.” Liam grit his teeth in embarrassment. “Forgot about…the incident.”

I couldn’t help but laugh. “It’s okay. Well, pushing the whole incident aside, yeah talking to Harry would be a good idea. I don’t think Jo would be too happy about it though.”

Niall rolled his eyes.  “Screw Jo. Nobody likes her anyway.”

“I don’t mind her.” Liam informed.

“You don’t count. You like everybody.”

The three of us laughed. Almost as if on cue, Anastasia opened the door and walked out onto the porch and stopped. The laughter stopped too.

I cleared my throat. “Hey.”

Anastasia smiled at me, it was short but sweet.

“I’m going to run some errands.” She said, walking down the steps without a look to Liam or Niall.

I sat up. “Do you want me to go with you?”

“No, no.” She interrupted quickly. “You work on your homework. I got it.”

“Where are you going?” Niall asked suspiciously.

Anastasia didn’t answer. She just continued to walk.

“Hey.” Niall whispered, scooting closer to me and Liam. “Let’s follow her.”

“What? No!” I whispered back.

“She’s been acting weird all week.” He argued.

I narrowed my eyes. “Gee, I wonder why.”

Niall’s face turned cold and he went back to his notebook. “Whatever, let’s just finish our work.”

I shrugged. “I’ll follow her if you tell me why you cheated on her.”

I could see Liam tense up, Niall, however, remained relaxed. He looked up at me with piercing eyes.
