Chapter 6
"Since we're going to be spending quite some time together," Rebecca said," you should probably tell me a little bit about yourself."
I searched my brain for things that she might find interesting about me, but I didn't really consider anything I did very special.
"Well, I'm in choir." I said.
"You like to sing?" She asked excitedly. I nodded. "That's wonderful!"
I laughed," I really like to write and draw. I'm pretty good at writing but I'm kind of struggling at the whole artist thing."
"I actually have private art lessons at my home every week." Rebecca explained. "I could teach you if you'd like."
"That'd be really cool." I said. She smiled.
"My daughter Anastasia loves literature, she can't get enough of it. I'm sure the two of you will get along very well." She speculated. "Josephine is more of the athletic type. She absolutely adores soccer. Everyone calls her Jo."
"They have soccer here?" I asked, surprised.
Rebecca giggled," Of course. We do the same things that your kind does. It's just that they're done differently. Some aren't quite, well, as you would put it, humane."
I shuddered at what that might mean.
"Sorry," Rebecca apologized, noticing my alarm," I didn't mean to frighten you. But it's best if you get used to those kind of ideas now. I'm sorry to say you might experience some very disturbing and frightening encounters here."
I nodded," I figured that. I was wondering, do Wendigos live here too?"
"Those ghastly things?" Rebecca asked, mortified," Absolutely not. They prefer to live as far away from any civilization as possible. They're much more cruel than anything that lives here, and that's saying something."
"So, the creatures that live here, they're all cruel?"
"Well, you see Annabeth," Rebecca explained," they're just like people in a way, some are kind and some are..unfriendly."
This whole thing was so surreal. I wasn't frightened at the moment, but I knew that when things started to get real, I would be terrified out of my mind. It was almost like the trees had eyes, watching Rebecca and I's every move. I really hoped they weren't.
"Are you hungry?" Rebecca asked. "You must be starving from your long trip."
I nodded, I actually didn't even notice until the thought of food was mentioned. It sent my stomach longing for it.
She smiled," I'll fix you up some supper. Are you allergic to anything?"
I shook my head," No."
"That's good. We're almost there."
We walked and talked for about more ten minutes before reaching a 3 story house. It looked very old, but it was still very beautiful. The garden that led to the front door was completely breathtaking. The arch that led into the garden was white with elegant vines hugging it. The garden was filled with what had to be hundreds of different plants. I had seen some of them before, but most of them were foreign to me.
"Beautiful." Escaped my mouth in awe.
"Isn't it?" Rebecca agreed.
"Did you design it?" I asked, tearing my eyes away to look at her.
She nodded," Michelangelo assisted me in planning it."
I raised my eyebrows," Michelangelo? Is he your brother or something?"
