Chapter 12

"Dylan, I think I'd much rather stay out in the hallway." I said, trying to stop him from dragging me by hand into the cafeteria. But all that made him do was grip it tighter and grin.

"Ready? Hold your breath." He instructed. "And try not to let your eyes wander too much, for your stomach's sake."

I rolled my eyes and did what he said. We pretty much powerwalked all the way across the cafeteria with my eyes glued to the floor. I did, however, glance up in time to see Harry, the heart was luckily gone, sitting at a lunch table with the rest of his crew. I noticed that he and Zayn were sitting on far opposite ends of the table. Harry was sitting in between Jo and Niall, Louis and Jade were sitting next to each other, and the rest of the couples were side by side as well. It was just typical that they all had the same lunch, I was starting to learn that they practically ran the school.

Harry caught my eye and then he looked at Dylan as the two of us walked past. His eyes grew darker and icy, and he mumbled something to Niall, who looked at Dylan too and nodded. Harry clearly was not a big fan of my new guide. It made me wonder why. It seemed to make him even angrier that the two of us were interacting.

I quickly glanced away and followed Dylan to the regular food line. The lunch ladies looked relatively normal, minus the spiked hair and long, colored fingernails. I was thankful that it was a self-serve kind of thing because I really didn't want them touching my food. Dylan smiled at me and offered to hand me a burger. I nodded and scooped some tatter-tots and mayonnaise onto my plate.

"Mayonnaise?" He asked with a raised eyebrow, putting a hamburger and piling five hot dogs onto his plate.

I laughed. "I like tatter-tots and mayonnaise. Hungry much?"

"Hey, I'm a growing boy."

"Wolf." I coughed into my shoulder. Dylan chuckled.

"What happened to not helping who we are?" He teased.

I shrugged," I didn't say it was a bad thing. It's definitely not a turn off for the ladies."

He smirked.

I cursed in my head and scratched my neck.

"Yeah," I laughed nervously," sorry, I'm being weird. I'm not that good at making friends and talking to new people. I mean, I guess I'm okay at it. But then I start saying random things and I embarrass myself and-and I'm rambling. Sorry."

Dylan laughed, and when he did so, I couldn't help but notice the left corner of his mouth droop down in a twitch. I found it incredibly hypnotizing and attractive.

"No," He said with a smile," I'm glad you can talk to me. As for the not good at making friends part, I disagree."

I smiled down at my tray and followed him to the cash register.

"That's kind of ironic considering what happened to me earlier." I joked. Then I remembered I forgot to bring money for lunch.

"Crap," I said, looking around as if money would pop up out of thin air," I totally forgot my-"

"I'll pay for your lunch." Dylan offered.

"Sorry," I said," I'll pay you back, promise."

He smiled," No, absolutely not. And don't apologize, you never have to apologize to me."

I didn't know what to say to that so I just looked anywhere but at his beautiful features and thanked him. He was clearly not shy and definitely a professional in flirting. He paid for both of our lunches and we started walking again.
