"So since I'm becoming apart of the family.... Does that mean I'm an Outcast too?" I asked.
"You are not yet an Outcast, however you will become one as soon as you complete your mission that I will talk to you about in the gallery." She replied confidently.
I locked eyes with Jess as soon as she began talking again.
"Rule number two, you may not go to school. The teachers there are idiots."
"I can agree with you on that one" I said laughing.
"Rule number three, you may not have any love connections with any hosts.... Lastly, and most difficult, you may not speak to any of your family members ever again."
I immediately stopped and looked at her. Jess looked at Joan with a concerned look as well, and when she realized we both weren't following her she looked at us with a quizzical look on her face.
"What's the matter with you two?" She asked with a confused look.
"Look mother, she just got here. Why are you so hard on her with that rule? At least let her say good bye while she's still a host." Jess argued. He really was concerned about me. I noticed as I looked down that his hand was squeezed tight against my wrist. This was very unusual.
"I'm sorry, but I can't risk it, remember what.... Never mind. Let's just get to my gallery quickly. We are almost there." Joan replied.
"No mother. I don't think we will be following you. I knew this would happen just like thirty years ago!" Jess yelled.
All of a sudden, I feel his brawny arms pick me up over his shoulder and sprint.
