Paul's POV:

Another day of getting dragged along on one of Thomas's death wishes. There is a massive dome of clouds and his idea is to walk right in and fight stuff. Kai is okay with it so I guess I am too. I really don't want to walk into this creepy thing but I won't let anyone know I'm worried. I wonder what its like in there. Thomas said it was a projection of Castor's soul it doesn't make any sense to me but I'll be with him so he'll help me underst-and Kai pushed him through the clouds.

Well I guess we're all going. I step through quickly it is my job to make sure Thomas is safe at all times. The clouds are warm and damp but not in the way I thought they would be. It just felt really humid. As we stepped through I noticed two key differences in the school. There were no buildings all of them got ripped up and sat as a ball in the center of town. The other difference was the lighting the street lights were still on but otherwise everything was covered in a creepy purple hue. 

Kai's panicking about something. He's yelling at me like usual he's very emotional about this. It's probably about that horror movie we went and saw. I liked it almost made me forget that we were neglecting all our responsibilities as retainers. All Kai needs is a kiss and he'll feel better. When he starts to feel worried his personalities start to fragment and he needs something to bring him back. A small kiss will do the trick.

Great now Thomas is panicking will there be no end to this mess. One moment Kai's standing next to me and the next he's trying to kill some weird goo gorilla. Its weird that he likes me. It really is. I'm next to useless in combat I can fend for myself a little but I really rely on him for almost everything else. I can't cook or do laundry or protect Thomas without him. I'm like a toddler and he's at least in his teens. I'm so lucky to have him. Oh the worm thing is gone now. Hmm oh the eye symbol again what am I trying to find? Cabin? Oh Thomas Cabin. Yeah I can get us there.

It's not a far run its just almost all uphill. The school was flat before this why is it hilly now. I'm so tired. His cabin is just around the bend. We push all the children in and stand guard outside. Kai's mind is a weird place I normally try to avoid just reading it to read him. I think as I catch a glimpse of the chaos in his head. There are four Kai's on a cliff there is a small control panel I recognize each of them as one of his different personalities. He doesn't have DID (dissociative Identity disorder) he just can't quiet get one personality down. He tries but his professional side hates them unless their perfect. Right now murder-y side refuses to give up control.

I poke him in the nose. His hand grabs mine in a deadly grip. That's when joyful Kai takes over and apologizes switching over to kisses. He stopped and looked at the door. Thomas was talking. Did I care what he said? No Kai'll tell me what he said later. Hmm oh Kai is sending a shock wave through the ground. He uses his own energy to convert things. He just drains energy from his surroundings to stay awake. I don't think he's ever slept. He just kinda stays awake cleaning and waiting for me to wake up.

I'm impressed he could send such a large shock out. He's gonna have to drain a lot of monsters to regain energy. The two of them continued to talk and then Thomas ran inside. He came back with batteries. Kai drained them he wasn't fully charged yet. I tried to lean back and relax a bit before the fight but Kai's state is starting to worry me. "If you need to charge a bit more I'm here"

He smiled up at me. He took my hand for a moment. Slowly I could feel my energy being drained. He stood up straighter. "There we go I'm still not 100% but I can work with this. I've been in bigger battles on less."

We have fought together for years. We fight most of Thomas' battles for him. Anything he actually fights we think he can handle. The bear was a bit of a stretch in my opinion. I look up at the hill and watch as a cascade of goo apes march towards us. I kinda wanna see the hostile take-over in Kai's head but it's over before I can check. He's off like a speeding bullet sucking energy leaving nothing but puddles. His arms lightly fluttered through the air lightly dragging his fingers across each beast. He fought with this unique mix of speed and grace. I'm not saying that because he's my boyfriend. He moved smoothly through the mob.

He'll be fully charged soon. That's when the fighting gets a little more hectic. The look in his eye isn't what it should be. He's planning something. It can't be what I think it is. He dashes through the hordes draining all energy from them. I step through the goo trying to move towards him. His movements became erratic and dangerous. When he builds up to much energy he can't control it well. Last time he built up this much energy he destroyed an entire army. I ran after him. "Kai release some energy you need to cool yourself now. I know what you're planning that is a last resort leave it as such."

He drew a small circle. The circle is his way of using thermal energy so he melted tons of the things. "Fine a last resort. Until then help me get rid of them."

I smacked a few but I can't seem to hurt them. A punch just gets absorbed. Kai destroys one after the other just melting them or absorbing their energy. He destroyed them all and stood there staring at me. He wasn't fully back yet. I kissed him lightly and there he was. His usual dopey smile as big and bright as ever.He looks at me and whispers "I love you"

Something is moving behind him. Something launches out at him. He hadn't quite melted one of the beasts fully. It was trying to attack. I don't care if it is going to be successful. I spin with Kai so that I take the brunt of the blow. It hurt but it couldn't hurt more than losing him. I guess in the end I'm being selfish. Now he has to live without me because I couldn't live without him.
