Thomas' POV:
I was trying to find a comfortable position to read one of the books the headmistress sent me. I had never read this one it was called Whirligig. I am enjoying it pretty well when the front door alarm went off. I slowly creep out of my room to see if I can tell what's going on. Paul is standing there in black slacks and a white button down shirt. He couldn't have knocked. "Oh Paul it's just you. You could have at least knocked you scared me half to death."
He stood there. I walked up to him. Kai wasn't there neither was the headmistress. I tried cleansing his soul but that didn't do anything. I put my hand on his shoulder and he lowers his head refusing to look at me. "Thomas you will returning home effective immediately and any relationship that you have with Kai or myself must be terminated. We will be allowed to say on as your retainers but we will act more as a bodyguards from afar."
My hand recoils. Instinctively I reach back out. He brushes my hand off. "Paul, what are you saying? Why are we terminating all relationships? Paul answer me." he didn't look up "Kai told me you have to follow any request I ask as long as I won't be endangered by it."
He took in a deep breath and looked at me. "Thomas, since Kai and I revealed ourselves to you as agents we technically failed our mission to protect you without you ever knowing. We did however get our promotion because for years you had no clue even after meeting us. The headmistress is following all the rules except for one. We will still be allowed to be your retainers on the condition we do not make any contact with you unless protecting you in a combat situation. Now please pack your things I will disable the security system."
I reached out one more time but he turned away from me walking towards the front door. It's a good thing I never really unpacked I wore the clothes washed them and packed them back up so I could leave at anytime. I picked up my bag. I started collecting my animals most of them were asleep. "Paul, I'm sorry about all this. I wanted to be at your wedding. I wanted to see you and Kai be happy. I wanted to be friends forever."
Paul turned and walked out. I could hear him whispering to himself. I followed him out followed closely by all the animals I had brought along. He didn't talk to me the entire way to the plane. I sat with him and he never spoke to me. "Paul, where's Kai? Shouldn't both of you be here?" He stared out the window more intensely "Paul ... oh come on Paul don't be like that."
He continued to stare. We sat in silence. I rubbed the head of a hummingbird. "Kai's at home?" I looked up. "He couldn't handle saying goodbye to you. He considered you almost like a younger brother. We've been watching you for years before you even knew keeping you safe. Every mission you went on we were there. You wouldn't believe how many times you almost died. Kai couldn't and I guess can't accept the fact that we can't talk to you anymore."
I leaned against the window. I miss him. A tear rolls down my cheek. Kai was my shoulder to cry on and Mandy is my vengeful fist that's how our friendship worked. I'd cry to Kai and Mandy would crush whoever made me cry. "How could he? We have spent years together."
When we landed at the school. I missed the view. There are so many tall buildings here I missed it. I really want to go to my bakery. I turn to ask Paul if he wants to join me but he's gone. Where he was standing was a small basket holding my phone and all the other things I had to leave behind when I went to the amazon.
I grab my stuff and I have one text it's from Kai. It only has one word.
Goodbye
Then he sent me a second one
I'm really going to miss you. I was even going to ask you to be my best man. We won't be able to talk for a long time I'm really sorry about everything.
