We went upstairs to get some dinner and just as we were finishing Zack knocked on the door.
“Hey, where’s Rian?” I asked as I followed him back to the basement.
“He’s not here already?” I shook my head. “He’d said he meet me here when I asked if he wanted to walk together when I was finished at the gym.”
“That’s weird. I wonder what he’s doing,” Jack mumbled before he picked up his guitar and collapsed on the couch aimlessly strumming, while Zack set up his bass. I joined Jack on the couch, staring at nothing in particular.
“Maybe he finally grew the balls to ask Casadee out,” I whispered not really expecting anyone to have heard me. Jack snorted, while Zack joined us on the couch opposite us and replied.
“I doubt it. That boy wouldn’t ask if he was locked in the same room as her for a week without food or water.”
“Who wouldn’t ask who what if he were locked in the same room as whom for a week without food or water?” Rian asked stepping into the room and joining Zack on the couch. “Your sister let me in by the way.”
“Err, we were wondering what you were doing. Zack told us that you didn’t want to meet up with him earlier,” I replied.
“My sister’s home?” Was all that Jack acknowledged from his friends statement.
“No I let myself in,” Rian replied sarcastically.
“Whatever. Are we going to practice?” Zack asked picking up his bass while Rian walked over to the drums.
“No I called you here to tell you about my new shoe collection I’m starting,” Jack answered, his voice layered with sarcasm as he also went to pick up his instrument. He glanced over at me to see if it was okay to tell the others about the song we had written earlier, but I shook my head; I was always really nervous sharing my work. After the first time it was okay, but it was getting through that first time. We played a couple of our favorite songs both as a warm up and as a buildup to me telling my friends about the new song. We’d been playing just under an hour when Jack suggested we stop so that we could get a drink. I was also pretty sure he wanted food or a piss, maybe both, but he wasn’t going to say and I knew that this was when I was going to have to tell them. I was still trying to make the words come out of my mouth (they were my best friends, this really shouldn’t be hard for fuck’s sake!) when there was a sharp pain in both of my sides. I flinched and saw Jack smirking at me.
“Told you I’d get you back.” I looked confused for a minute before he reminded me. “The shower on Saturday, remember?” Rian opened his mouth to say something but I cut him off by saying it wasn’t anywhere near what they were thinking.
“Whatever you do in your own time is completely your own business,” Rian stated.
“Whatever, I take it you haven’t told them yet?” Jack asked me knowing full well I hadn’t.
“I was about to…” I started before Zack cut me off asking.
“Tell us what?”
“We wrote a new song earlier. And when Alex gets off his ass and picks up my guitar we’ll play it for you.” Jack hinted holding said guitar in front of me. I sighed and took it from him and picked up my lyrics in case I forgot the words.
