I was sat at my desk absently staring at my blank computer screen. I was semi-avoiding Jack as we still needed to talk about last night, which I was dreading although I knew it needed to happen. I was also grounded and the only reason I was allowed my computer was because Zack was coming round so we could carry on with our art project under the beady eyes of my mother. I was in a different world with my thoughts so I didn’t hear Zack come in causing me to nearly jump out of my skin when he tapped my shoulder to announce his arrival.
“Hey Lexy,” he smiled cheerfully.
“Hey Zackary.” He went over to my bed and settled on it with his laptop while I turned on my computer so that I could at least look like I was doing some work. I was probably going to repeat yesterday and get nothing done.
“So I thought we could pretty much repeat yesterday where I’ll find some good websites to use and you can either help with that, or you could start on the design of how you’re going to present it,” Zack suggested.
“That sounds like a good idea. What are you going to do for yours?”
“I haven’t quite decided yet, but I was thinking that I could either make or grow a plant and then on each of the leaves place a different profile,” he replied while looking up from his screen.
“That’s cool.”
“What about you, what’s your thinking?”
“I’m not sure yet. I was thinking about maybe using a guitar in there somehow.”
“That’s an awesome idea and it will give you your uniqueness.”
“Maybe, I’m not sure how I can incorporate into the project though.” We fell into a comfortable silence while we worked and after a while I turned on some music. After I had gone through the stuff that Zack had sent me, I got out some paper and started to design the layout. When I had a few potential designs, I gave up and just watched my friend as he worked.
“Jack’s worried about you, y’know,” he said suddenly.
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“I don’t know. He just asked me to tell you that he’s worrying about you.”
“Just tell him that I’ll talk to him later,” I replied as I got up and joined Zack on my bed.
“Okay.” He carried working for a couple of hours with us only really talking about the work. Our conversation had created a kind of awkward atmosphere and I was sure he wanted to take our conversation further, but he wasn’t going to say anything for my sake. I was grateful for that, but it left the room slightly tense between us. However when Zack got up to leave, everything seemed okay between us again.
