I had this as a draft for days, I wasn't sure if posting it was a good idea, but here it is... Credit to whoever made this...

I spent to much time in Tumblr, too much, for my own good. I found this: (when something is in bold is what I say, okay? The rest, is part of the original post: I DON'T OWN IT)

LET'S START!

About Jay and his suicide attempt.

WHAT?

Something we know by now is that jay doesn't have very good self-esteem. True... I used to have a headcanon, and I've been talking to about said headcanon and we've come to a pretty worrisome conclusion.

Do you remember this scene from the pilots, in which jay was about to fly a poorly-crafted pair of wings off of a skyscraper in ninjago city?

Here's the thing. This was a suicide attempt.

WHAAAAAAAT?! :'O

We have this character Jay. We know he doesn't see himself highly. Yeah, me neither, I mean I'm the same way... However, we don't know just how long he's seen himself this way, and we don't know how bad it's ever been. But here in the pilot episode "way of the ninja", we see that Sensei Wu found Jay after the ninja's invention crashed into a billboard.

NONONONO MY BABY D':

First of all, jay jumped straight down. Now, I'm no aviation scientist, but I know that when you are about to fly something, you shouldn't go downward. Good point.... Especially the way he is holding the wings - above his head, spread out wide, that is the way it should be when you would glide outward. he wasn't diving. Well, he was, but not with the intentions of flying away into the sunset. Poetically cruel ;-;

I should point out is Sensei Wu himself understood Jay's flying wings weren't good for flight. to quote from the journal of Sensei Wu, in Jay: master of lightning: "needless to say, it [Jay's test flight] did not end well. I had already calculated the mass of his invention...and the speed he would need to successfully launch himself into the air."

Jay was raised by Ed and Edna. He would and should have a good, sound understanding of how flying and aerodynamics work. His parents built bubble jet packs, For heaven's sake!

PLEASE STOP! IT WAS AN ACCIDENT HE WASN'T TRYING TO KILL HIMSELF! DX

Secondly, he'd know to use better materials. The drab pieces of tarp strung between a couple sticks is not steady for flight. They were torn up after going through the billboard. imagine being faced by the force of the air - it could not have been substantial. In the same ninjago book, it was stated that "Jay had designed a material that could be written on as a document, or stretched to form a waterproof tent" this material must have been extremely strong and durable. Why didn't jay just use that? He would have had it handy. But he chose not to.

IT WAS AN EXPERIMENT! D':

Third, he tested this death trap from the top of an incredibly high skyscraper. When you have invented a flying machine, there is one thing you do not do: and that is start off your very first test off the top of something high up. What you should do is start off a hill, maybe 15 feet up or so. Testing something you haven't before from a death drop is asking to die. Jay would have known this.

HE THOUGHT IT WOULD WORK! >~<

Lastly, Jay didn't want to go out in a conventional way. WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS?! This suicide attempt gave him two final scenarios: first he would die from the fall, (immediately, it would likely have been) and he would become headlines. "young daredevil man dies after falling from skyscraper on pair of wings!" or, on the other hand, he would survive, and become the celebrity he dreamed. "Young daredevil man hang glides from skyscraper on a pair of homemade wings!" To him, both of these were wins. The first would get him recognition beyond his grave, and he would be away from the world where he felt he had no place. The second would leave him "special" and recognized and maybe he'd get friends.
