"I understand everything you've been doing for this company, but at the same time, you didn't even try to get here. You just rode on coattails all the way up to a supervisor position. And I hate having you work underneath me." Your supervisor said, propping herself up on her desk, legs crossed under a tight pencil skirt. There was a dangerous glint in her narrowed eyes, lips pressed tight.

Your heart thundered against your chest at the unexpected revelation, your palms sweating where they gripped the chair. "You don't like me because I'm good at my job." You said softly, eyes glued to hers. Neither of you wavered, instead, her lips tilted up into a smirk.

"Look, she's beauty and brains. You're smart, you're pretty, you work hard, but you're young and naive and I don't appreciate a newcommer outshining me. If I get my way, you'll be out of here in the next two weeks. So, I've already taken the liberty of sending all of your workers home." She said, scrunching her nose and lifting a shoulder.

You rose to your feet, advancing on her. "You WHAT?!" You screeched, your hands starting to tremble with rage. "You conniving bitch! That's illegal, and you have absolutely no right to even speak to my workers, let alone fire them. If I have my way, you'll be out of here tomorrow." You spat, reveling in the offended look that crossed her face.

Wordlessly, you turned on your heel and stomped out of her office, ignoring the looks of the people that witnessed the explosion. I was fuming, hot from head to toe, shaking. I plopped myself down in my seat, picking up the phone and calling my boss, but as it turns out, he had learned that all my workers went home. I had only discovered it when I was just now walking back.

I was fighting angry, frustrated tears as I made my way to his office, my stare on the ugly blue carpet, my jaw clenched. I was wringing my hands until I knocked, and he told me to come in immediately. I did, and he gestured to the seat in front of his desk.

His eyes locked on mine, and I tried to tilt my chin up, showing I wasn't scared. "Trish informed me that you have run into a problem, regarding your workers?" He questioned, passing a ball between his large wrinkly hands. His pale blue eyes narrowed, his angry face tilted in a menacing manner. I took a deep breath.

"Yes sir, but I can explain." I told him, and he tilted his chin up, now mocking me.

"Oh, please do. I can't wait to hear this one." He said, leaning forward on his desk, a mean grin plastered on his old face. I breifly wondered if this was even worth it; no one at this office in a large position even liked me.

"She was the one who did it. Trish sent all of my people home. She just told me, in her office, that she did it." I said, hooking a thumb over my shoulder. His bushy eyebrows lifted, and I swallowed even though my mouth felt like the Sahara.

"Why on Earth would she do that?" He questioned, and I shrugged. "I have no idea. She just...doesn't like me. It's obvious." He rolled his eyes, and I wanted to scream. "I hardly think someone who has been here for so long would do such a petty thing. If you don't want to work here, or you don't want people to help with your work, just say so." He said, feigning nonchalance, and I paled. I know what was coming next.

He heaved a sigh, leaning back in his chair. "I'm sure, since you don't have a problem sending people home, that you can finish your work? Make the deadline? All on your own. I'll expect your quality work, Ms. Y/L/N." He said, and you wanted to cry and scream and throw things at both he and Trish.

"It wasn't me!" You said, losing your cool, a pleading tone in your voice. He just gave you an even stare, and then sighed again. "Go home, Ms. Y/L/N. It's...seven o'clock already. Go home and take a night off, we'll talk in the morning and decide your fate at the company." He said, and you almost sobbed right then, standing up and brushing your skirt off. "Thank you, sir." You said, inclining your head, though the words felt like bile in your mouth. Without another word, your left the office, anger over-taking all your other emotions.
